U.S. says Canada cares too much about liberties

gymtime said:

In a perfect world, yes. But not in this one I'm afraid. If the US didn't drop a few bombs every decade or so, your beloved land would hardly be enjoying all those civil liberties you're currently enjoying.

GymTime:
Please, please don't tell me your views are representative of the GENERAL US population! My god!!! Do u see shyt like that happening in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, or Holland? No!
Why? Because those countries don't meddle in the affairs of other sovereign nations. What goes around comes around.
This is why it's so laughable for Americans to think that September 11 would happen over HERE! Canada is known as a peace keeping nation, not as a war monger. Your government is "addicted to war" and I fear that CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox has totally brainwashed the general populace.

hahaha... sure thing.

I think you forget that Canada is protected by England, not the US.
Good one...and who is it that protects England again? England, you say? I can assure you that they don't possess the population, resources, or technology to truly protect themselves, should China come knocking, much less protect all of our draft-dodgers as well.

Protecting Canada is a moot point anyway...nobody else wants it.

I pledge allegiance to no government.

I am a citizen of the Earth. No more, no less.
I am also a citizen of the Earth. Patriotism, like religion, is a tool.

What surprises me is how you fail to aknowledge the fact that Canada is largely economically and politically dependent on the US. By denying this, you are discrediting your criticisms of the US. It's like a black market Canadian steroid wholesaler who complains that Steroids are illegal in the US, while his prices are inflated because of the legal risk he takes in selling them (sorry for the weird analogy).

By the way I agree with your assessment in the original post.

Only because there's NO OTHER country next to Canada. So Canada's choices of who to deal and trade and vacation with is..uh...kinda "limited". :)

No. If another country was next to Canada instead of the US, that country might be largely dependent on Canada instead of vice versa. Furthermore, Canada's current relative economic position may be largely dependent on it being next to the US in specific, as opposed to Russia, Mexico, or even another first world country.

It's hard to speculate, but it isn't as simple or disjoint as you claim.

If Canada was out in Europe, they'd be as dependent on the US as Sweden.

btw: The US is way more dependent on Kuwait and UAE then Canada is to the US. So what does that say? Kuwait is better then the US then, according to your logic of "dependency".

1. I never said that dependent meant worse. I'm just pointing out that the US and Canada are not totally independent of each other, and the dependencies are mostly in one direction. To illustrate this point, an anti-war protester should think about the logical alternative to war because his/her way of life is dependent on the state of his/her country. Only then is his/her argument complete.

2. Canada and the US are both dependent on Kuwait. This doesn't change the fact that Canada is dependent on the US.

3. How do you know what would happen if Canada was in Europe? Either way, the fact remains that Canada is dependent on the US.

Dependency is a big word. If the US were to get blown out oft he water tomorrow and cease to exist, do you think Canada would just shrivvle up and die? Would they all starve to death, or have to immigrate to europe? No. They'd still eat food, go to work, and build new industries to make up for the lack of US imports now. Both countries do trade for each other -- the US importing many natural resources, while Canada importing many media products, cds, movies, tvs, franchises, etc. The US imports 100x more items from the Orient than Canada does from the US.

I just disagree with the term "dependent". If China cut off the US, it would crush the US. Which gets all of it's cheap clothes, electronics, and 95% of what you see in Walmart. That's dependent. If kuwait cut off the US, gas prices would shoot up 500%, that's dependent. I don't see anything huge from the US that Canada needs that would crush Canada if they couldn't get it. Hence the "dependency" issue.

You are a very wise and astute thinker! I pray to god there are many more people like YOU in your fascist country because it's going to be your kind that saves the entire planet from destruction! As Jefferson (or was it Ben Franklin s?) said, "anyone sho's willing to give up freedom for security deserves neither freedom nor security."

Peace and piece!
