Tricep Tear?

KillerLoop

I was training triceps last week. I did close grip bench in the Smith and everything was fine. Completed 3 heavy sets. Then I went onto lying EZ bar extensions. I had my warmup weight on and started the set, after 3 reps I got a terrible sharp pain in both tris. It felt really deep and like a needle was shoved in my triceps. I stopped and left the gym....my arms hurt for the rest of the day.

I looked in the mirror today and I have a large bruise all the way down the inside of my left arm.

Any ideas what has happened?? Was it almost a tear?? I did chest today and everything was ok with my tris.

Hmm... a torn ligament/tendon I would guess. I had that too, but mine never bruised. I guess I didn't injure mine as badly as I thought, though it did hurt like hell. It wasn't a sharp stinging pain though. More like a blunt object just slammed me there repeatedly!

I personally don't like full bar extensions. Use dumbbells, see if you have the same problem next week. If you do, then lower the weights on the extensions. They're a big straining exercise on the triceps, harder than the Closegrip Bench I believe.

Thanks Legion. Doesn't sound too good then!! I might just stick to close grip bench, dips and pressdowns. Do you still think I need extensions if I do those exercises for full tricep development?

Sorry, haven't been on in awhile, woulda responded earlier.

Personally, I don't think you do. If you do 9 sets for a bodypart, you should be fine. 5x5 CG Bench, 2x8 of pulldowns and dips. That should be more than enough to build your tris, since you're also building them doing military presses & bench presses.

Goodluck, man!
