Training the abs with resistence?

How do you guys add weights to your abdominal training?

I feel like I can do most abdominal exercises to the 500rep range before I feel a burn and don't get very motivated to work on abs.

Any suggestions?

Using a decline bench or "sit-up machine", I usually put 50-100 lbs on my chest, cross my arms over the weight, and do around 25 sit-ups.

I'd be interested in learning how to work the lower abs and obliques...

Head harness, you can attach weights to them...hell of a lot more resistance than if you put it on your chest but I train with weights on my chest since I'm so stingy and don't really wanna go out to buy a harness

I only train my abs with resistance. Medicine ball throws, overhead squats, heavy rope pull downs/leaning pull downs, spread eagle situps with a plate or med-ball, etc...

Sk*, I found that I have to do WAY too much volume for my abs to "feel it" too. Then I got to thinking, if any other muscle in my body were getting bigger/stronger, I'd up the weight when it got easy. Why would my abs be any different?

hmm good idea, i always wanted a stronger core. I feel like my abs are going to burst while doing pullups and i can barely hold the squat bar on my back. Movement is easy but the stabilizations a bitch.

I agree with you, just that it is hard to incorporate weights to some abdominal exercises.

Best exercise I had found for abs was weighted cable crunches, but the weights only went up to 200lbs lol ... after a while the intensity wasn't there.

Doint things like weighted crunches doesn't feel all that comfortable of a position, maybe I am doing something wrong though. Do you keep the weight on your chest or hold it with arms without letting it touch your chest?

Pillsbury,

Thanks for bumping it, i'll check it out.

I don't really do crunches. I do all my ab work with my legs straight. I think you will find that in a wide stance, leaning forward, with legs straight, 200 is a VERY heavy cable pull down. I don't use anything close to that.
