After the soreness goes away is it ok to hit the same muscle group again or should I stick to the once a week routine? Is there anything I could do to speed up recovery? Thanks in advance.

good question - wish I had an answer for you :)
i'm just starting weights again after a six month hiatus and my training frequency is basically dictated by my recovery time. My first workout took a week to recover. Next workout took 5 days to recover. Then 4 days to recover. I suppose last nights workout will take 3 days?
I want to be working 3 times a week since I'm really only a beginner as far as progress goes - though I've had previous weight training experience so I know what I'm doing in the gym.
Anyway if you're working hard enough that it takes a week to recover from a workout, then you should certainly be taking a week between hitting that bodypart again. But if you're recovered in 2 or 3 days time I can't see how waiting a week would speed growth/progress.
