to spray or not to spray...

okay, so the "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray has been my new best friend. It says it has zero calories for 5 sprays...so therefore I calculated that I can have as much as my little heart desires without consequence!

Anything to worry about because I love this stuff! I wish it came in an aerosol can, so my finger wouldn't get tired!

i live by this shit i use it on everything i even put it on my eggs in the morning for that BUTTERYYYYY taste:p I was skiptical too but fuck its the best no calorie butter my fridge is filled with little yellow bottles (i just got them on sale buy one get one:) )

I hear ya cdownie! I used to slather butter on all my shit! Now I spray away to my hearts content! I know it's not the same thing, but I can live with it--I like to call it "butter flavored water." :)

hmmm...sounds good....I'll have to try being that I am still using butter for cooking up my eggs.....

on another note, I tried poaching some eggs to avoid using the butter....this is not easy.

You've got to try the spray! I also switched my regular mayo for the Best Foods green label, 2 fat grams type. I used to kill my food with extra sauce, mayo, butter...you name it, I wanted mooooore of it so this has really helped me to cut the calories.

For your eggs...have you tried the plastic microwavable egg cookers? It has two receptacles for your eggs--you add a bit of water and about a minute later your eggs are done! They usually have them hanging in the isle at the grocery store or you can probably get them at Target. I suggest cleaning them right away or the egg will become rock hard when left to sit on the plastic. Other than that, it's nice and easy!

I could never give up mayo.....I love Helman's.
I used to eat mayo on toast in the morning and mayo sandwiches when I was a kid...

Don and Mike (a radio show) had a Helman's mayo eating contest yesterday for Cinco de Mayo...hehe some dude ate a jar of mayo in a minute, and some girl did too.....hehe

ewwww! Now I'm a (former) mayo FREAK, but that is just nasty! I can feel my heart clogging up now...

I didn't give it up, I just switched to the lower cal, lower fat type (reluctantly, of course) and now use it in moderation. I've also made mustard my best friend and slather that on when I need to have my sandwich nice and moist...I can't stand dry stuff!

Another alternative/supplement to may is Dijonaisse...it has a lot fewer calories and it tastes really good! There are a lot more choices now (that I've noticed) and good alternatives to the fully loaded stuff, which is where you can really add on a lot of empty calories.

a good alternative to cooking ur eggs with butter is cooking them in olive oil. There is more fat but its better for you and your eggs taste much better. I STRONGLY suggest making ur eggs like this as it gives them a totally different taste which is much better IMO.

yuck....i can't eat eggs cooked in olive oil......

me likes butta'

haha....I was thinking of one of my favorite things to eat....

a sandwich prepared like this:

toast w/butter topped w/mayo
2 eggs fried over easy in butter
sliced ham, browned up in the frying pan (w/ a little more butter)
cheese
maybe some lettuce and tomatoe if I have it laying around....

:p :p :p

btw, this is in no way healthy....lol....but it tastes good...

yo bro, i live in phily to where about Im just south of phily PM me bro if you want

i love the spray too, but if you look at the ingredients they aren't exactly calorie free...

no one knows how many calories, fat grams etc is in more than 5 sprays!

light-moderate spraying is proabably fine, but if you are using the stuff up really fast (and 900+ sprays per bottle), I think there would be some cals/fat etc...

Lets think about this logically here...
Apprently there is 0 cals per 5 sprays...
Lets be realistic and over shoot and say there is roughly .9 calories per 5 sprays...(less than 1... so the company could say 0.. i dunno)
900 servings divided by 5 spray intervals = 180 servings
180 5 spray intervals multiplied by 0.9 calories per 5 spray interval =162 calories

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........... If you were to eat the entire bottle in one session.. the worst case scenario would be 162 calories which, if pure fat would only be 18g of fat.

If you are a total butter spray whore... and are using 100 sprays per meal(which is 1/9th of the bottle) you would be getting 2g of fat or 18 calories per serving....

I really don't think these calories will add up to much...

LOL

heres an idea.....measure how much 5 sprays equals to, or any quantifiable amount of sprays and then.....look at the "spread" and get the calorie count for 1tbsp. there's calories in them thar sprays

and i know someone who uses.....more than 5 sprays.

Check your local grocery store for a brand called "Smart Balance". They have both mayonaisse and butter products that replace all of the bad fat with good fat. I use the light mayo which is the only one I can actually find(not sure if they make a non-light version) and it has only 6g of fat per serving and tastes just like real mayo. Those lowfat versions usually add sugar to replace the fat but this one doesn't have too. I love to make tarter sauce by adding lemon juice and dill relish to eat with my fish.

Also the butter is about 9g of fat per tbsp, and as I said it's all the good fat. If you can be this happy with 5 sprays of the fake butter then a simple teaspoon of this stuff, which is no doubt more than 5 sprays worth of the other, only has 3g. I often put a tbsp in my green beans or peas for extra flavor when I'm having a protein + fat style meal.

If you add this stuff to your diet then you can lay off the flax oil and other products you use to get in your good fats without losing the flavor of your favorite fatty products. I can guarantee you the butter and mayo taste just like the real thing since in fact they are, just healthy fats are used.

I recently bought the "Smart Balance" butter...but I haven't had the heart to switch from the spray. The spray just feels "guilt-free."

I was really wondering if the spray butter has anything in it that would make it "bad" for me. That's why I posted the picture of the label...

NO WAY! I'm not kidding myself that it tastes like real butter...it is just a good replacement for butter lovers like me.

bump for more thoughts on this. The bottle also states that for "cooking", 1.25 sprays is the serving size, and there are 904 servings per bottle. I dont understand this, are there bottles made strictly for cooking, and those strictly for topping? The bottle has on the front, "for topping, cooking, and baking."

When we compared the spray butter to the tub version, I noticed that water was the first ingredient in the spray. I figure it's just a watered down version of the tub stuff. I admit, I use more than 5 sprays...more like 10-15 depending on what I'm using it for. I did notice that the tub version has just about as many calories as real butter! I'm sure Nate has some sort of scientific breakdown of the spray and all its evilness, but I'm quite happy to spray to my hearts content! :D
