timing and what to eat?

Hi. Just wondering what you guys eat before a workout to keep your energy up.Fruit, vegetbles, pasta etc. And and how long before working out do you eat. I've been trying to find that right balance but not shure.

I eat a bunch of complex carbs like whole wheat pasta or somthing and some kind of meat like 2 chicken breast or steak about an hour before. then right affter i work out i have a shake.

I have a protein and carbo shake and usually a banana an hour before i workout, then drink another shake in the changing rooms straight after the workout

i have some carbs (Cheerios, banana) and a whey protein shake with 8 oz skim for my preworkout meal...

about 30 minutes prior is the best i can do it though, as i work out in the early AM...

In general terms some kind of complex carb + protein an hour (depending on what you eat the digestion will be faster/slower = make sure your body has ample time to digest) before the workout.

Anything to have glucose levels normalized or up a tad. If you go into trainig with even slightly depressed blood glucose, you can and will more than likely have a bad time. Interestingly enough, it really only takes approximately 5 gr. of carbs to raise blood glucose back to normal levels.

Depending on how far out your training session is, as to the type of carbs you want. If relatively close to training, then a bit higher glycemic is a good idea. Longer away, more fibrous and slower digesting carbs.
