The problem with the death penalty

The rate of exoneration is NOT that high at all.

Just one look at all the people who have been on death row and who have later been exonerated should tell anyone that the justice system is extremely flawed.

Especially when it comes to violent crimes, like murder and rape.

The police have to catch somebody in a case like that. The prosecutors must get a conviction and the judges can't afford to be the spoilers and let people off the hook.

Worst of all are probably the juries of your so called peers, it's essentially a popularity contest at that stage.

Should a man hang for raping and/or killing a girl? Absolutely.

Can this justice system safely determine that it was really him? Unlikely.

I don't believe in prison. If someone has a conscience at all, he knows within fifteen minutes "Hey, I screwed up." It does not take twenty years to convince anyone of that, if they are capable of understanding it.

My dad once put it this way: "If someone is so dangerous that he has to be locked in a box, he's too dangerous to live. Put him down the same way you'd put down any dangerous animal, and for the same reason. Otherwise give him a shovel and put him to work."

I'd much rather have one or two wrongly accused people on death row, than paying millions to keep the *right* people alive and in jail.

Well DUH! Because you're not an innocent person convited of a crime you didn't commmit and are about to be executed.

As long as they never come off of death row to be executed. Killing one or two innocent people to support the death penalty is morally bankrupt.

Paying millions each year to keep properly convicted felons alive is financially bankrupt.
