Still a terrible deadlifter, and probably always will be, but, because of a little inspiration I received from the board, and an article I read today by Dave Tate, I tried something new on my deadlift.

Today was max effort squat/deadlift day, and I changed from the traditional deadlifts that I had been sucking at to sumo stance with my toes against the power rack, and I wore my z-suit with the straps up. I hit a 40 lb PR by doing this. Thanks to the board and all its members, and thanks to Dave Tate.

Yo Brian...

Congrats on the new deadlift PR. I read the deadlift article by Dave Tate too. It was awesome. Deadlifts are very mental. You have to convince yourself that you're going to pull that weight no matter what. This is one lift where anger can really assist in the execution.
Great lifting!

Thanks for the congrats guys. I don't have the link to the article. But I found it by looking on Testosterone.net and putting Dave Tate in the search window. I can't remember the title to the article, but in it he talks about finding a gym to do his dynamic squat workout in some city he was doing a seminar in.

After box squatting with 405 plus blue bands he did some speed deadlifts, when some pencilneck came up and told him he was deadlifting wrong. he then writes how he set this guy straight on how to deadlift.

What kind of balls does it take to tell Dave Tate he doesn't know how to deadlift? Or even if you don't know who he is, what kind of balls does it take to tell someone who looks like Dave Tate he is deadlifting wrong? For those of you who don't know, Dave is a freaking monster, like 6 foot 2 or so and pushing 300 lbs of what looks like solid muscle.

Pencilnecks amaze me. Guys thank you so much for your support.

I also read the article and tried it but the suggestions made my lifts a lot harder. Basically I didn't scrape my shins by keeping the bar a little off, my shoulder behind the bar, and trying to use my weight to pull the weight back and up. Was I doing something wrong or do I have to give it more time?

I don't know for sure. I guess everyone is different, and I am certainly the last guy on this board to give deadlift advice, but for me, I read the article in the afternoon, and hit a 40 lb PR that same evening. My faults were probably a lot more glaring than yours, and I also switched to Sumo wearing a Z-suit as opposed to conventional with no suit.

I think if i did some more sumo deads than i would kick some ass deadlifting. Heck , my legs are still not all there.

Oh by the way, Way to go Brian!

Heck, now all i need is a 40pd PR in the bench. I am seriously thinking of switching to a complete Westside workout because this new one i am doing is wearing me out lately.
