The test for familial hypercholesterolaemia is not that critical for your treatment (and it's kinda expensive I believe). What IS important is to see how your body responds to being off oral AAS and on a low cholesterol diet for another 8 weeks. If that doesn't bring your cholesterol profile back down, then you might consider the Lipitor. You most likely Don't have FH since the other members of your family didn't have diagnosed coronary probs until later in life.
But if you do have FH, then you may be on statins for the rest of your life (or until they find better treatments). In other words, FH=statins, not FH=maybe not statins. But let's not be premature. Most likely just making those minor lifestyle changes will improve things.
