strength loss during workout

SAGAT

New member
lately during my workouts, my strength drops significantly after about the 3rd set of an exercise. what could cause this? i'm drinking enough water during and outside of my workouts....what gives?

i would bet on overtraining...or when is the last time you took a week off? similar thing happened to me a while back, i decided to just work thru it, which was dumb b/c it got worse before it got better

hmmm you may be right about having to take a break. i don't think i'm overtraining (could be wrong about this tho) 'cause i'm not really constantly fatigued. i here's my routine:

back/traps
chest
rest
arms
legs/shoulders
rest
rest

so that's 4 training days and 3 rest days. i'm currently doing a modified 5x5 routine, the maximum number of sets i do for a bodypart is 9 (which i rarely ever do).

In some studies on overtraining...

They purposely overtrained athletes having them do squats like 7 days a week for two weeks or so. The funny thing is they didn't lose strength in the squat. They maintained it. However, there sport specific abilities suffered significantly.

You can be overtrained and not feel fatigued. Actually, I think decreased in strength come before fatigue when overtraining sets in.

You are just tired, fatigued, etc ...
I like DC's methods on training because it's simple and quick.

I'd put a rest day between chest and back days. Good rule of thumb is to put a rest day between the days you work large muscle groups. That might help.

well maybe i am overtrained, it happened again today damn it. well after this training week i'm going to take a week off, reorganise my split and start a new program.
thanks everyone for the replies and advice.

when you take your week off, eat everything in sight, including bad shit you wouldnt normally eat. I find this helps for when you get back into it. Maybe just the psychological rest is needed also. Let us know how it goes!

are you weating profusely, out of breather when done with your sets.... if so you might need to get in anaerobic shape, sprinting or you might just need to take more time between sets to get a full recovery. Take five days off and eat well then go back at it with more time off between sets...
