St johns wort and ephedrine

Hello, just a quick question regarding st johns wort and ephedrine. I noticed that the package insert for the ephedrine says you must not take st johns wort a the same time, does anyone know why?

1 is an anti-depressant and sedative-the other is the opposite-it is like speed

St. John's Wort contains a chemical that acts as an MAO inhibitor -- MAO breaks down norepinephrine (NE), the release of which is stimulated by EC, thus concommitant use of the two could result in elevated NE levels, which could cause overstimulation, high BP, increased HR, etc.
