Speed deads

I'm going to do these for the first time in about an hour. I can one rep 545 slowly, so I'm going to do them today with 245 for reps. Does this weight sound about right?

I'm also dealing with two herniated discs, so I'm kind of hesitant about doing deads at a high rate of explosiveness. When I dead heavy, I'm usually laid up for a day or two popping PKs, which is acceptable. But, any advice so I won't be laid up any longer than necessary?

Thanks

Given your back issues, I think that sounds about right. I wouldn't go over 60%, which is 327...so I would think 245 would be a safe starting point. Adding any accomodating resistance, or just the bar?

How do you plan to reset between reps?

Speed deads are a breeding ground for bad form, at least for me. When I did them, I focused too much on keeping up the pace and lagged on form. Paid for that mistake for about a week.

So why do them with that touchy back of yours?

spatts, just the bar unfortunately. I was going to just touch and pause with these, not fully reset

gt, thats just why I'm sketchy about doing them, but I have to try.

Because I'm an idiot:)

Speed work is the time to concentrate on perfecting your form.

I agree with gymtime, and that's SPECIFICALLY why I asked how you planned to reset between reps. I HAVE to reset my form between each, or I'll break myself in half. What I do is a "rocking" move. I put the bar back down, with as little eccentric as possible, while still holding the bar, I rock back on to my heels, letting the hips go back up, straightening the legs just a tad, then right back in to DL formation, as if I had just approached the bar.

Now that I think about it, I definately wouldn't have focused enough on my reset, as you could tell by my first reply. I guess it would be a problem. Now I definately will. Thanks a lot guys. My back thanks you too:) If you don't hear from me in a few hours, I'll be kicking back in the ER

The only time I generally perform "reps" wth deadlifts is when warming up for ME Deadlift work. When I do that I use the rocking method that Spatts talks about to reset between reps

When I am doing speed deads I do SINGLES. Which means I walk up to the bar, set up and pull it, then walk away. Like I said...speed work is the time to work on form. Go through your entire set up on every single that you pull.

Speed deads are for singles...

Sunday I did 6 singles with 405
Last night I did
315 x 1
385 x 1
455 x 1
525 x 1
608 x 1

All raw, quick, explosive...and after box squats.
