So....why did you BEGIN to work out? what was your underlying reason????

It doesn't matter if you use drugs, supplements, what type of training you do, whatever, we all know that comes with the territorry, question is WHAT is the MOST IMPORTANT reason why you do what you do?
 
i was sick of being picked on cuz im short and was smaller,so i started lifting and now i love it and anything that comes with it
 
so i can have a place to wear my valeo belt,otomix shoes,baggy zebra pants, tooth floss tank top, and skull and crossbones bandana
 
well I started workingout to lose a few pounds but like anything else I do in life I have to be the best at it, so I have been with it every day since for the last 2 years now and love working out but I also love learning new things about diet,training and juice .:D
 
I started lifting to get stronger. That was my main concern. I wanted pure strength. I didn't really care about the size as much until this summer. I wanted to look good, I mean better than what I already was, cuz ya know...I'm a PIMP BABY!!!!! lol
 
6' 247 FATASS. Little muscle.

Needed a major change. Dropped to 195 and added like 20-30 lbs of muscle over the past 2 years.
 
I did it for football. I didn't gain that much weight, but I could out lift any of the other defensive backs. Too bad that didn't do dick for getting me playing time.
 
I have an older brother who looks like a god....I see the girls he is with and I am jealous....now the girls are with me and he is eating a spam sandwich...

I have always loved working out...Just thought it was time to take it up a notch...

I originally started lifting weights because I met this girl that I absolutely fell in love with at first sight, and I wanted to impress her, with the results of the hard work. In the end, I did impress her. :horny:

I was 17 when I met her...
 
I started because I was very FAT and out of shape...I also wnated to become better at sports (Baseball is the main reson) and I knew that to do that I would have to be in better shape. Also my self-confidance was very low at the time

hi all, new to the board and this is my first post and I thought it would be a good intro. I started training to rehab injuries sustained in a motorcycle wreck. I slammed into a welding truck while I was still in highschool, and was busted up pretty badly. After surgury, hospital time and 14 months of intensive rehab, my doc tells me to be happy that I can walk, but that I can't do any sports again. F*%K YOU Doc! Don't tell me that I can't do something! I started to learn about fitness and weight training, and 15years later I competed in my first bodybuilding contest. I know that I still have lots of improvements to make, but I am happy with the progress that I have been able to make so far.
Long battle... but worth every minute of it.

I had pretty much the same reason....only this chic was one of my best friends at the time (high school)....we both started working out together, i was 5'6 about 205 at the time and was pretty Husky..lol....she was capt. of the chearleaders, so you can imagine how little of a chance i head....but we started going to the gym everyday..and i was a mad man...plastic suits and about 3 layers of clothes etc. by the end of senior year, i was dwn to about 185, and was loving the compliments, and the energy and all the benefits that came along with it...at my lowest weight i was 153, a drop of 50 pounds....then i got up to about 170 @ a little under 6% bf.....
i am still very into lifting and working out, but it is for my own personal benefit. as it has been for a while now

needless to say, when i told her how i felt, she didnt react well, and was like oh well i just want to be friends....fuck that shit man..lol....as u can imagine, i dont talk to her now, its been over 2 yrs since i was friends with her....fucked up thing is she lives right across the street.....
cool thing is though...all the chics around my town sweat me now, too bad for them though...bwahahahahaha!

right now i am 170 @ 10%...and looking to go to about 180 5%.........starting Fina and winny soon...cant wait...
 
I didn't wanna be skinny.

Big and strong was something I wanted to be since I could remember. Schwarzenegger, Superman, Incredible Hulk... all big, and strong.

I never lost that mentality.

Intimidating people, rather than being intimated by everyone like I was when I was 6' 1", 120 lbs. was a big motive as well.
 
Tired of being called, "That little guy", being picked on...The usual....I'm not where I want to be by any means, but I feel better now than I ever have....Now, it's time get freaky.....

INTIMIDATION!!!!!! I WAS ALWAYS A SMALL SKINNY GUY BUT NOW..........GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF THOSE FUCKERS WHO MADE FUN OF ME!!!!!!
 
i was a soccer player til i was 25 years old. then had enough
to "waste" my weekends to play soccer. in this time a friend
of mine took me to the gym; i was so pissed the next days i
couldn't even sleep because my muscles (va bene, i didn't have
muscles caus i was a skinny mf, 6.1" @ 155pounds) did hurt so much. so, for the next 2 months i didn't go to the gym anymore,
cause i hated it! then i tried again, et voilĂ , i felt in love with the
weights.
 
i did swimming in high school and was very skinny, so i started training to get stronger so i would improve. after that i discovered how much girls like a guy with nicely developed body and here i am now.
 
i was fat grown up, which i would get picked on and fight everyday.good thing im a blackbelt in karate lol.
then became anoriexic for a couple of years ans still got picked on butt now had not strength and was still not happy.
now ive been bodyuilding for 8 years and i went from 135@5-6
too 5-6 205 offseaon and 185 around 7-8% the rest of the time.
so now everyone clears a path for me when i walk in a club.lol
i get girls that guys get jealous of.
but most important i do it for me now and nobody else.
im on a quest and will keep trying to get where i want too be.
i know ill never be hapy with myself but thats what keeps me going
 
Some of all of the choices given. I really don't remember what prompted me to start training. I know I was first interested in it at 9 years old.
 
I started lifting after seeing a old muscle & fitness mag my dad had. It had shawn ray on the cover. after looking though the mag I want to be a pro bodybuilder. So I started lifting with a wieght set my dad had. It was a bench , barbell, and a some weights. The weights where the ones with sand in them. I still hope to be a pro one day. Next year i want to qualify for the nationals and compete in them.
 
I wasn't ever picked on... i'm tall.... i was pretty skinny... didn't want to do something just for some dumb girls... my main reason is that muscles look AWESOME... just plain and simple cool, i like looking at my muscles, flexing, and all that. And now it's an obsession :)

My original unerlying reason I thought was to feel better about myself and see how far I could go and just be my best. But the real reason was very different. It was because I felt very ugly about myself and my self esteem was extremly low, probably because of my relationship. She made me feel shitty sometimes and it wasn't about my looks. We didn't get along at times and I felt I wasn't good enough for her. But now being the best I can be is what it is all about and getting layed.
 
Because when I was younger I was very fat and then in my highschool years I have lost a lot of weight(with a shitty diet and lot of cardio..back then I knew nothing,thanks to elite now!)
And I was feeling a lot too skinny back then!

So I begin to lifts weight to gain back my weight but in muscle(I was feeling very small at that time and I was not feeling comfortable)

Now I am feeling a lot better about my body and I like the way I look! (big!)
 
I was a 6'4 280lb FATASS. Ran everyday and dropped down to 215lbs. Now 4 years later I'm 260lbs of muscle. I fucking love lifting now. The gym is my favorite place to be.

Car accident put me into rehab for life. Riding buddy was a bodybuilder and taught me what I was doing wrong for years with weight training.

As I started to see results, I was hooked. Here was something I didn't have to be "the best" at to be proud of my accomplishments.
 
My dick was out of proportion with the rest of my body, therefore I needed to dramaticaly increase the size of my muscles. And to get laid more.

Heeeeeey!!!! You changed the topic!! In the thread title it says why did you BEGIN to work out. And now you are saying Why do you DO it!!!!!!!

I started because back in Russia if you are small and weak you will have A LOT of problems. People will be stopping you on the streets, taking your money from you, not give you any respect, beat you up. Shit like that. So I got big. I moved to the States. And guess what? Nobody cares about size here. If you do shit to people, you will go to jail. As simple as that. So now I'm working out to get laid as much as possible.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has different reasons now. You just overgrow your past thoughts and reasons.
 
I was one weak pussy in h.s and my brother got me into training and then I really liked it, and I love the attention I get from the women. I like to feel good and look good, don't want to be a slob, and Pure Extract i am a bigger pimp...trust me he he

I am short and was NEVER picked on after the first grade i got a rep for nailing the first egghead that opened his mouth wrong in school and the big guys would walk on the other side of the hall to go around me but now i find more people confront me in my biz esp older men maybe hoping i will punch them so they can sue me. But i have changed and take alot more than i ever have UNLESS they get in my face. To answer the question posted i have always been naturally built and wanted to add to what i already had.
 
After my second wife cheated on me I decided that I needed to make some changes. Now if a bitch cheats on me again I can have another at the drop of a hat. I am convinced that all women are mental retards, it just takes some longer than others to show it.
 
I joined the Army at 5'10" & 145lbs. In the 9 weeks of basic training I went up to 175lbs! Finished training and went back to 160lbs, and wasn't happy with that so started working out but couldn't pass 180 no matter what. I went to Iraq when beheadings were the cool thing to do to American prisoners so I wanted to be bigger. I got on juice and went up to 226 at my biggest, then got out and stopped juicing. I have been stuck at 190-195 for the past 5 years, so I am planning my first cycle in 6 years. Once you have been 226 with 8-10%bf, 190 @ 13% bf is just not pleasant... Especially since I'm 33 and all the guys I grew up with are looking fat and old. I am just not going to accept that yet.
