is there any negative effects to that?

I eat carbs such as oatmeal, potatoes maybe whole wheat bread 2-3 times a day in moderate ammount

I eat some carbs in the morning, before basketball practice/weightlifting and about half hour later I have a postwork out shake followed by a steak and some mashed potatoes meal or something

but basically rest of the time Im consuming proteins.

so is too much protein gonna get me fat? someone mentioned here that I just read that it might show in your abdominal section if you are consuming too much protein and not enaugh carbs and thats what I was wondering about the most cause I think I have been noticing that even though im gettin leaned out and toned out the middle part of my body is still not doing a great job

maybe its just cause its abs, but i wanna know if im doing something wrong

Yes

Yes you really should change your diet, you didnt mention fat content but its probably alright as for the protein, your not really eating carbs but your still getting them. Your making glucose from the protein you eat, its an inneficient and not entirly effective or safe way to obtain glucose. What happens in instead of utilizing insulin to store\burn excess carbs your employing the use of cortisol, the break down hormone, that is stripping the amino acids off of your protein and turning it into glucose which then u burn. Cortisol is the "fight or flight hormone" and it breaks down muscle tissue or protein. See on a diet like that if you use to much protein to make glucose for yourself you'll burn muscle real actual muscle, this is not good escpeccialy since your heart being one of the softest muscles is also one of the easiest broken down for food. Not only that but cortisol deals with the excess fatty acid shot into your blood when stress occurs with a nasty habit of storing it in your abdomin region. High cortisol levels also can break down the immune system. Cortisol is needed though even at full glycogen capacity about 5% of your glucose is still coming from your protein. The whole point of the protein is to maintain posotive nitrogen balance so you have material to build muscle with. Carbs are protein sparing because they become glucose much more effeciently. The reason you see all these high protein diets is it makes you lean because it takes so much extra energy to make protein into glucose catch is you have so much less energy to workout with. You'll cut fat\muscle but its hard on your body and 100% avoidable. At the end of the day u want about 1.5-2.0g\kg, maybe a little more but dont skimp the carbs think of it this way you eat carb or u eat protein that turns into carb the point is your gonna burn glucose accept it lol and skip the whole cortisol thing. I used to do the same thing, high protein not many carbs fats kinda came with protein back then i was at like 8% bf now i eat less protein more carbs and a moderate amount of fat but watch my caloric intake so i can keep a small deficiate to stay lean and im at like 6% body fat maybe less constantly. My trainers calipers put me at 3.5% and tanita machines put me at 7.4 or so except for the stupid one in my bathroom that puts me at 15:P See my post labeled "The protein" and just call me "Protein nazi"

Interesting... so then should I still stick to 2 grams of protein per 1lbs of body weight or do something else?

I do think that I can get good results cutting and eating carbs cause I've done it before... but I just dont know what a good ration would be...

amount

Currently i'm looking at the amount and im finding a lot of mixed results. positive nitrogen balance supposodly occurs when you have 1.5-2g per kilogram (lbs\2.2) so as you can see thats not hard to get, however when on a high protein diet obviously because ur gonna be burning the protein and not building with it you need to eat a lot more than that to be at 1.5-2g\kg but if u eat carbs and spare protein by keeping your glycogen stores more full not only is that a more healthy environment for your muscles to be in but you wont need to eat as much protein, but id eat a lil more than 1.5-2 g per kilogram cause u will burn some protein off during the day regardless. Besidest the fact that for me 2g\kg is only 105 grams of protein which would actually make it difficult for me to get a good amount of FFA's from fish and sources like that without getting to much protein but it works out because i do need a lil more so i have 105 left over and also make sure that all the protein left over is protein from good complete protein (ie meats). id stick to maybe 1.25-1.4 grams per pound of body weight or id stick to 25-30% of total cals coming from protein,

so if I got basketball practice everyday which is 2 hours of running
and 1 hour lifting after practice what should my total calorie intake be?

30%protein 50% carbs 20%fat with around 2000-3000 calories? or does that not sound right

great

That sounds perfect, what i do is cycle my carbs and proteins and fats so on off days I'm eating more like 40 30 30 and then on workout days i'm eating 60 15 25 and the end of the week my diet comes out to be around 50 23 27 ideally 50 25 25
