snatch + clean n jerk instead of deadlift and squat

my legs are already strong and big i just want to train my upper body and core. i heard these lifts give good shoulder and core power and they look like deadlift and front squat combined in high speed. is it ok if i drop deadlift and squat ( there is no squat rack anyway) and do snatch or clean and jerk ? can you build muscle with explosive lifts as much as normal slow lifts ?
 
YES! Much better for building muscle in my experience. Nothing adds mass like a snatch and the clean and jerk. To a point of course.

BUT these are exercises to start with a pvc pipe. Do not jump up weight until you can do the moves very successfully. A snatch is very close to the body the entire time.

Also consider doing this w a spring board where you can drop weights. Talking from experience lowering the bar from overhead can be dangerous

the oly lifts are seriously fan-fucking-tastic to perform. explosive strength on top of big muscle gains? fuck yeah lets do that shit.
