Caning is something I can't imagine. It won't change my behavior other than to prevent me from going to Singapore for more than a few days. Not that there is much interesting to see there anyway.

I'm sure the memory of caning would really fuck up my life in a big way. I would probably dream of tracking down the judge, caner, a few wardens and violently killing all of them in a mission of revenge.

Whenever I read about caning, it confirms my belief that Singapore isn't going anywhere.

I suppose it is a crime deterrent to some degree. Crime is very low in SingaBore. There is censorship and public mind control up the wazoo though. I wouldn't want to have even a remote possibility of being caned. Maybe it is my personal distaste.

Kind of. I would say that the people are politically apathetic and inactive. That, mixed with governmental public mind control, keeps people in line. People are just so focused on making money and conforming that they miss the boat on politics.
