I've been using Ortho Novum 7/7/7 for years and have had a lot of problems with water retention week before and week of my period (yes, two weeks out of every month). I quit taking it for this cutting cycle; only time I seem to be retaining water is week of, and I'm retaining much less than before.

I want to go back on the pill after comp, and have been looking around for something else. Yasmin looks like it may work; does anyone have any other suggestions? I'll be seeing my doctor a few days after comp, so I want to have my research done before then.

I got back on the Pill 1 month ago, I was on Loestrin. Well needles to say. 3-weeks in to my first pack I was bloated, irritated, a real bit--. Never finished that pack. I didn't think it was worth my sanity, my husband even sided with me when I decided to throw that pack away. I am considering Copper-t, It is expensive but seems to be the best way to go.

"No hormones. Nothing to remember. No bloat. Can come out anytime if you change your mind...no need to wait."

Right on spatts. Not to mention the amount most of you spend on bodybuilding and dieting supps, I am surprised that you are put off by the opportunity to invest in a non-hormonal method of contraception. Heavy bleeding/cramps is the biggest draw back in some women, and a theoretical increase in risk of pregnancy (though in the real world I think the risk is slightly less since there's no accidentally forgetting a dose, throwing it up or not absorbing it when you're sick, etc....).

Spatts, you said 500.00 for the IUD, In that case my doc is trying to pull my eyes out. He wants 1700.00 for the exact same one the 12 year copper-t. That is the reason I haven't done it yet.

My IUD was free, other than the office co-pay. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be free or not, but I never got a bill for it. I think it depends on the insurance. Some won't pay for any birth control, but they'll pay thousands for all kinds of fertility treatments.

Yea I know spatts, I will look into going somewhere else. And it dosent help that my insurance provider dosen't pay any birthcontrol. Like fit say they will pay for fertility though.

i was looking into the yasmin myself a while back, cause of the water bloat i get from my pill a week before my period. last week i just found out my friend got pregnant while taking it religiously. not sure why tho, maybe because it is such a low dose pill. not sure. all i know is it kind of strayed me away from the idea

Honestly, I totally forgot about the IUD. I looked up the rate of pregnancy for the IUD vs. birth control pill, and here's what I found:

Methods of Birth Controll
Method Rate of Pregnancy with Typical Use Lowest Expected Rate
Male Sterilization 0.15% 0.1%
Female Sterilization 0.5% 0.5%
Hormonal Methods:
Implant (Norplant) 0.09% 0.09%
Hormone Shot (Depo Provera) 0.3% 0.3%
Combined Pill (Estrogen/Progestin) 5% 0.5%
Minipill (Pregestin only) 5% 0.5%
Intrauterine Devises (IUDs):
Copper T 0.8% 0.6%
Progesterone T 2% 1.5%
Barrier Methods:
Male Latex Condom (1) 14% 3%
Diaphragm (2) 20% 6%
Vaginal Sponge (no prev. births) (3) 20% 9%
Vaginal Sponge (previous births) (3) 40% 20%
Cervical Cap (no prev. births) (2) 20% 9%
Cervical Cap (previous births) 40% 26%
Female Condom 21% 5%
Spermacide:
(gel, foam, suppository, film) 26% 6%
Natural Methods:
Withdrawal 19% 4%
Natural Family Planning(calendar, temperature,cervical mucus) 25% 1-9%
No Method: 85% 85%
(1) without spermacide, (2) with spermacide, (3) contains spermacide

This looks better in table format, but I think you guys get the idea. The first percentage is the rate of pregnancy with typical use; the second percentage is the lowest expected rate of pregnancy. Copper T totally wins out over the pill.

Thanks for clueing me in!
