Yo man, i would start takin L-Glutamine, which is an amino acid like protein, and it prevent muscle breakdown when you are dieting or "cuttin". Also, when you first wake up, before you eat, do like 30 minutes of cardio, runnin, joggin, raquet ball, anything to get your heartrate up for atleast 30 minutes, because at this time there is no food in you, so you burn fat. As for the L-glutamine, try to take in around 10-15 g's a day, to minimize muscle loss, also keep on weight lifting and only drop your calories about 250-300 less a day...IntenseWorkout.com has really good articles on this.....

Don't waste your money on glutamine

bein 6'5'' is not horrible genetics, second I got to well over 3 bills completely natural, then when I cut down I had 8% bf at 265 NATURAL....with a big frame and good people behind you at a young age you have a lot of potential.
 
Wow cool thread, I'm having the exact same prob as you Lee, same age too. Although I'm not as lucky as you are, I'm about 5'7 185 lbs at 18-24% bodyfat ;).

I'm cutting this summer though, not because I want to impress people but it'll help with body weight exercises and motivation (easier to see results). You look pretty lean there I wouldn't worry about putting on too much fat. It's all up to you though, I think you made a wise choice to bulk. And yeah, most of the people who replied are right. It's confidence/ambition/success that gets girls not a lean physique (although it will really help).

Hmm so all of you have been/seen guys screwed over who were going for girls too early in life? Thanks for the encouragement/warnings guys, I really needed to hear that stuff to get my priorities straight. :)

Isn't being big-boned a good thing?

Anyway, I feel the same way in a sense and that's why I'm cutting right now. I love women. But I'm doing it for me in a sense. I hate looking in the mirror and not seeing abs. You might think it's incredibly shallow, but I want to be "that guy" at the club, pool or whereever that the girls want and the guys wish they were. Call it what you want, but I spent the first 18 years of my life being a total loser. I'm turning the tables.

He can do it all, he's only 17 for christ's sake. He could be pretty damn cut in 8-12 weeks, and as long as he watched his carbs at night he could still bulk while staying pretty lean. I'm 21 and have only been training for about a year. I already look better than most guys. He has all the time in the world.
 
Definitely a good thread. Not much I can say that others haven't.

Lee, I understand where you're coming from with girls, but it's all overrated. I've learned that over this past year. Don't let that influence you too much. I wouldn't say to discard the idea completely, keep it in the back of your mind, but make sure your main drive is going to make you happy.

I agree with Debaser with his reasoning - he's cutting now because he wants to be "that guy" and being as Summer's rolling around I myself think I'm going to change things up a bit. I want to lean out somewhat right now for Summer. It'd be nice if I can make this happen quick. I figure, since you normally store extra fat in the Winter for warmth anyway, and I'm going to be wearing my huge sweatshirts all throughout that time, it'll be perfect to bulk. I guess we'll just wait and see, though.

As far as that goes, does anyone think I should go for a CKD or just try some sprints and other forms of cardio?

Oh, and should I continue with my current lifting routine (5x5) and if so, should I keep increasing the weight each week, even though when you cut you generally lose strength?
