should you be sore after a workout?

I've never used soreness as a guide to growth or a good workout. But having said that, if your continuously overloading your muscles, there should be some feeling of mild discomfort at least, but i wouldn't get too worked up about it.
 
soreness is by no means a way of judging the effectiveness of a workout

We did a thread on this a while back. I´ll look for it. Short answer, accute persistant soreness more than 24 hours after a workout is overtraining. That is, muscle breakdown that continues for up to a week and takes some 3 weeks to regenerate.
