Should the fuel station have to pay for my clothes for this?

Last night I was at the local diesel fueling station filling up my truck. When the tank was full I pushed the lever back down that the nozzle usually sits on... Well apparently the lever was broken and actually hung on a broken piece of the front of the fuel pump and it never turned off. When I tried to finish tapping the fuel tank full it shot the nozzle out of the tank and sprayed probably close to half a gallon of diesel on me. It's ruined my favorite AG jeans and my nicest jacket and new shoes. Combined those things cost around $450 to replace. Should the fuel station be liable for those items since the front of their fuel pump was broken and hung up the stop lever?

I would say yes, but your gonna have to really bitch. Use a can of coke in the wash when you wash them. It might help.

I would think they have liability but good luck collecting.

Businesses get tired of almost all consumers feeling their loss was irreplaceable or priceless or their very best.

Well this is actually an "easy" fix. I was working on my truck the other day changing the fuel filter, got a ton of fuel on me. Clothes REEKED. But the trick is to wash them a couple/three times in HOT water with a cup of vinegar and a third of a cup of dawn or any LIQUID dish soap with each wash. You can't smell any of the above on my clothes and they were not discolord or damaged in any way.

FYI, Distilled white vinegar is best but any old vinegar will work. Make sure you add a rinse cycle on the last wash. It helps to rinse the clothes really good and to rinse the machine.

I don't think I own any realistic combination of clothing such that, were I doused with something gross/staining, I would have a claim of having lost $450 worth of clothing.

I'll have to think about it, though.
