I have an uncle in Maine that has a small one for his home. He also has solar cells on his roof. He makes more electricity than he uses and sells it back to other people in the grid.

I guess drilling for oil in the Middle East, shipping it across the Atlantic, processing it in Virginia, and then transporting it to Maine to heat his home is more efficient than using a windmill and using solar panels

Alternative sources of energy do have obstacles to overcome but in the long run the technology is going to improve to the point where everyone has a solar panel on their house and an electric car in their driveway.

I'm buying my 60' radio tower next week. the actual windmill will come later. I want 2 eventually.

Hopefully, in the next 5-10 years thin solar will be cost effective for regular home owners.

Solar Today Magazine a while back showed some of the research going on and it is very exciting. The #1 start-up concept in Silicon Valley right now is alternative energy. Billions of dollars is being plowed into new technology and it is just a matter of time before economies of scale and scope kick in and it becomes more affordable (then again I am just pulling this shit out of my ass and everything I say is bullshit - I make it up as I go along! )

Since we gotten a little tired of collecting and filtered WVO for the last 2.5 years, and the free supplies are starting to dry up, we're seriously thinking about getting one of these EV conversion kits:

Cool. Lumberg posted a link with some alternative vehicles and one guy made a hybrid with an electric motor from a forklift for $600+. I have an old nissan I want to convert but it is not a diesel so WVO is not an option. I think it is cool you are using veggie oil.

BTW how many MPG are you currently getting?

We get about 40mpg on WVO, same as diesel. Collecting, filtering, and spending time messing with it was fine when it was absolutely free and plentiful, but it's not worth it to either of us to pay for it.

I know this kit is going to require some metal fab, but that shouldn't be a big deal for us. I just can't tell if the "controller" in the kit is a battery, or if we'd also have to spend an additional 3k for that a battery pack.
