yea im definatley interested and very passionate, im writing a book about my weight loss and how to do it etc, on my free time now, im prob not even going to sell it just try to get donations for it lmao.

but seriously, i really would love to wage a war on obesity, I HAVE been plagued by obesity my whole life, everyone is big in my family except my mother and I so it is a big deal in my life. I know ALOT ALOT about it as well, im consitantly reading things on how/why things react in our bodies. its acutally amazing i find it. i have also "coached" several coworkers through thier weight loss, got one down 20 lbs and another down 15. Not too bad. AND I LOVE HELPING PEOPLE GET THINNER/FEEL BETTER about themselves, cause man i went from a fat to fab and im conincieded as hell, i dont know what i would feel like, most likely exremely depressed if i was still "trapped".

Thanks guys!
I'm on a similar path ... I say go for it ... :D

I was thinking something similar. But more along the lines of sports type nutrionist.

How many years of school do you need for something like that? Is it possible to do an associate type course? I'm not intrested in going back to college for another 4+ years.

Im a nutritionist student, this is my last year (4th)... the career is based on clinical nutrition, and after you graduate you can specialize in Sport Nutrition...

there are programs of single sport nutrition, and I believe that they last like 2 years

Im in school for food nutrition; dietetics....it is some hard work let me tell you. Im finishing up my 3rd year right now. The 1st 2 years were mostly requirements but now its up to the chemistry/physiology/biochem/biology techical stuff. I seriouslly need to study 10-12hrs/week to just get by ....sometimes more b.c i want the a's and the b's :)

-Its up to you if you really want to do it! If you are passionate about it and really feel that this is something you wish to do then GO FOR IT!!!!!! I love it, it is an amazing job field with THOUSANDS of job opps. A nutritionist will always have clients(aspecially with the way the US health care system is and Obesity on the rise)..... DO some research, find out about different programs and Good luck. PM me if you have ANY questions! :qt:

My degrees are in Nutrition, Food Science, and chemistry/food chemistry.

If you are going for this field, specifically clinical, you will need to get your RD. Don't settle with just a degree in nutrition. Become a Dietition and get your RD, no matter how quacky it sounds. Your job availability and pay will increase dramatically with an RD next to your name. There are a lot of people in this field who are clueless and do not know squat about how the body functions.

If you are serious about this field, then I highly recommend complimenting your degree with a strong science background in Biochemistry, Biology, Physiology, food chemistry, etc. Understand the body and how it functions.

Other fields such as immunology and microbiology will help even more.

This field will also pay more depending on your geographical location.

Remember, when you go private practice, you are basically just baby sitting your clients. You are only gonna find success in those clients that really have the drive to help themselves. Try to shoot for professional athletes and those who take pride in their bodies. You have to get your name established though.

The schooling isn't hard at all if you enjoy science and the field itself. Do not expect to find a lot of teachers/professors to understand the bodybuilding side of it though. Expect to hear a lot and believe in stuff like the Food Guide Pyramid, etc. A lot of worthless shit.

I recently lost a ton of weight and i am really into it now. Im currently working, 19. I know i need to go to college, so i have been interested in either Criminal Justice and or Nutritionist/Dietition.

I would love helping out tacking obesity, obesity is a huge problem and i feel i would be able to open up my own Place in the future. Maybe a nutrional center /gym.

I just dont know where to get started. There are a ton of phony online schools, i would love to go online but in this area there arent too many that are acutally creditable.

Are there any dietitions/nutrionists on the board that can shed some light on the field?
Salery? Hard work?(wich i wouldntmind)

how hard was it getting where u are?
how long did it take?
how many years school or internships, etc.

I really feel this is the field i am going to choose. Im just aksing because i dont have alot of money, im working full time, so i cant just take a risk on a course and then say "fuck it"

Thanks for anyone that can help.
Are you passionate about it and more importantly are you willing to fight clients? If you love it and can deal with the BS then do it!
