Seated DB Press

shibs

Stay frosty
I noticed while doing these the other day that if I sit on a bench with a back to it that I can use for support, I can use DBs that are like 20lbs heavier. If I just sit up straight while not leaning on anything though it is much more difficult. Why is this? I know you're using your core to stabilize you etc. but why does that take away from your other muscles being used to move the weight? What way do you do these and why?

It acts as a brace so to speak....takes all the extra play out of the lift and allows you to narrow your strength directly into the press. As opposed to no back support your core eats up a lot of energy and strength just keeping your body in the right position.

I use military press seat, the cushion goes as high as middle back. I dont like the full incline benches for this lift. I feel like it fuks with my lift.

I switch betweeen back support and no support.

I have some odd shoulder issues with pain when DB pressing 45lbers with back support, but if I go up to 100lbers no pain. At all... wierd
