PWNED BY THE TRACK...

Its Sunday & the gates were closed. 45 min on the home Precor instead.

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Got an interesting wake-up call this morning --- (not a phone call) --- I put on my uber cushioned Nike SHOXXXX today- the kind that have the springy looking things all the way across the bottom instead of just on the heel- the $$$$ ones - to go run on the track because my feet were sooo freekin' sore after the last adventure in sprinting - particularly the balls of my feet. So I used those on my Precor when I realized the track wasn't available today - goddamm my feet were sore because the tennis shoes are a bit narrow -- most Nikes do that to me - but it was mega ache w/in 4 minutes - that is not good for a scheduled 45 min cardio session.

Basically I need some good running shoes - so I'm off to see what I can find on a budget....

I have a lot of problems with my feet. Low arches, wide feet, unusual wear pattern. Asics work well for me. They wider and very supportive. Nike is horrible for me.

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

ended up getting ASICS -- dumbass here drove 30 min to the nearest Dicks, tried on 1/2 dozen pr shoes until I found them. Paid total $90 for them. Then drive across the street to DSW (this season's shoes are tragic btw) and see the same ones for $10 less + I have a 15% discount card. Dumbass. No time to return the others. So I just went home feeling stupid.

I've already had $15K worth of bunion surgery at age 25. My feet MAKE me respect them.

I don't have issues with my feet, but agree with you on the Nike - they are VERY narrow & the toe box is cramped or something.....

I've liked the Asics I've had in the past.....Hope the new sneaks feel better for you Sassers.....

Make sure to stretch them and do some light massage on the muscles. I started getting those and if you can stretch the muscle then you can prevent the splints. Especially after every sprint day you run since the muscle is already warm.
Did you pick your shoes based on your foot type??

Few questions... I have been looking at competition shoes... I have long legs... What would you recommend heel height, and what look? Should I get one with an ankle strap to cut up the length?

My predisposition towards shinsplints dates back to jr high track so I'm prone, one way or another.

The shoes were chosen based on arch support & cushion -- the 'best' option had a design that cut into the top of my foot when I went up on my toes, so I went w/ this - the next down w/o getting nutty on the price. I've already got at least as many tennis shoes as I do dress shoes now. :worried:

The shoes you need are the 5" lucite ones w/ the very low bottom (no stacks). I personally don't like the strap shoes - it does exactly that - it cuts the line of your leg. Why would you want to do that? They group you by height so if your long line is chopped short and you are next to someone just as tall or taller than you, what does that get you? I also find them distracting - but it depends on how comfortable you are walking in them as well. If the slides don't fit right, they clunk when you walk. I personally prefer the slides- but I need a strap high on my foot or they won't stay on.

Here are the usual ones you see:

shinsplints suck! I get them all the time to. Fill a styro cup with water, freeze it, then peel back styro to reveal ice. rub on shins after workout. Works pretty good for me. The next day I use heat.

I am SOOO soaked by the time I finish that stuff I have to bring an extra towel so I can drive home & not destroy my leather seats :worried:

The biggest challenge is getting the eqpt set up & not having someone step in & start using it -- kills my momentum ! LOL! These poor people tonite on the leg curl -- I come back from the other side of the gym doing the hypers, completely soaked and there's 3 people rotating on a super set. I'm like WTF??? LOL. I probably came across as a total bitch. I just dont' want to kill the aerobic aspect of it all.

Anyway -- two targets:
- July 14 - NPC Southern States / Ft. Lauderdale
- July 21 - NPC Teen, Collegiate & Masters Nationals / Pittsburgh

Playing it by ear - bodyfat is going to be an issue this year. Also concerned about weight because last yr I came in just inside the Light Heavy wt class limit at 139. If I go over 140 lb, then I have to go into the Heavy wt category -- that's 140 lb + -- that leaves it wide open for all the mega monster girls. I'm already avg 3" taller than most of the girls in the LtHvy wt category but not as thick. I"m not interested in getting any thicker to compete w/ the big girls. Blah... LOL!

I had a pair of those shoes except w/ the 3" stack on the bottom as well. I'm already taller than most of the guys I train w/, work with, etc. Now that I pump to a 16" bicep, I also am bigger than most of the guys I know. I dont' think I need further help.

... although I own 3 pairs of those lucite jobs and several stack shoes of similar height from my clubbing days.

... not to say those days are over yet....

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Thx bg! My core strength is pretty decent - the stuff that requires a joint be involved at a weird angle gets to be an issue. That sucks. Normally my flys are strong, but my shoulders & elbows are taking a beating.

I'm thinking its also time to start changing up the training routine a bit. I've got 3 days of upper body, then 1 lower body. I'm ok if I do my rotator warm ups on all the upper body days, but for craps & giggles I did 2 sets of relatively light (assisted) pull ups and my right scapula is hating me again. Also time for a massage & adjustment as well. Might be on the agenda tomorrow. And generally more focus on cardio. The bodyfat is coming off, but its still slow. I friggen hate that.

Sprinting is tentative considerign its 2:45 and I'm still up. Just popped an Excedrin PM - not sure how well that will work or what state i'll be i when I wake up -- this stuff usually makes me fuzzy in the morning.

Once again on the road to competition. Another refocus back to BB as certain of my respected mentors admit to me that I am "not girlie enough" to do figure.... and I happened to be qualified for the NPC Master's Nationals this yr in July. So after exiting my last interesting position of employ I have more time to focus.

For ref, here's my last log where I was looking to do a figure show and my sporadic but most recent posts on my progress (or lack thereof):

Been experimenting w/ a new training routine & for a week so I guess now is as good a time as any to start up for real. The diet has been very clean but a bit random, tomorrow starts the scheduled diet. I am including the caveat that I'm also job hunting & looking outside of my current locale so a large-scale move may impact my goals, or not.

Target show: NPC Masters Nationals (women's BB) ==> about 17 weeks out.
Date: July 22-23
Where: Pittsburgh

Other dates in the vicinity:
- NPC Southern States: July 14-15 (Ft. Lauderdale) - oh yea, I turn 41 this weekend too
- NPC Battle of Dixie: July 29 (Hoover, AL) -- this depends on where I live in 4 months....

Current stats:
bf ~20% (not formally measured yet)
Wt: 162 lb
(Height: 5'7")

Target stats (show day):
bf: 7-8%
wt: 135-140 -ish

QUOTE]

Your stats are VERY similar to mine. I recently had someone tell me I have to "come down a bit" in order to do figure. My "sholders are too big". I have "too much muscle". Forget her!! But then other people told me I am completely fine.

IMO, if you want to do figure, do figure. I still am!! :)

Actually it was my last trainer who was trying to get me to do figure. I've done BB since 2000. The other purpose was to move away from the bulkiness required for BB and into somethign that was a nice exit point from competition and then maintain. But I also coudlnt' get down small enough in time. Then I just lost interest.

There are distinct differences between figure & bb- the obvious one is the physique, but the show itself --- I'm afraid I want to do more than just qtr turns in 5" heels. What I love about BB is the abilty to present your assets, show your personality on stage and put on a good show. That's just me.

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Hmmmmm....how long did it take Cory Everson to drop down? I remember in the 90's she was BB all the way. Saw a pic of her not too long ago and she's more figure/fitness now. I was a little shocked to see how much she'd lost.

15 reps you have a strong chest girlie! What is your tut on these?

This seems to be the one thing that I get an actual flex / burn on so I hold it 2 ct squeeze at the top & 4 ct drop.

I think Cory got out before FBB got really freaky. If you want to see a really dramatic change, take a look at Kim Chizevsky.

I usually just mash it all together.... When you are really carb depleted its like a sugar coma. I'm not really feeling carb depleted tho so I'm sure I'll feel "full". Also it may help rekick me into a good upswing on the diet...

And yes, we have the ultimate score -- 50 min deep tissue massage for $25! So I got 2 of them! Massage schools are great places.... Tomorrow at 11:15!

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Deep tissue massages are great when performed correctly! Unfortunately there are no schools around here.

Just dropping in to show support, say "hi" and to root you on :). Enjoy you massage and don't let um' baby you in there :).

Mostly I need a huge amount of lat work done and then just some overall stuff. Figured it would be more economical.

The PA show - still playing it by ear -- the cost is daunting right now, the schedule is getting hairy as well -- soooo... I'll tell you some time in June I guess.....

Chicago in less than 3 weeks tho....!

HAPPY JUNE 1ST!!!!! One more month to go till July.... thats only 4 weeks!!!!

You excited or what? I know youre not nervous since you are a pro... and I never got a chance to thank you for warning me about the whole rebound and depression post contest. I wouldve went ape-$hit without your advice!

How are you doing anyway? Why the loss of sleep all the time?

Yea that whole "YAY I FINALLY GOT THE ULTIMATE BODY" thing is great until you start eating like a normal person again .... blah... LOL! Live & learn.

Loss of sleep = unemployed, landlocked in Georgia and looking to get out.

Oh yea, thx for reminding me... 44 day before I turn 41...

Not that I'm counting or anything.... :)

Training is rockin' but its taking a toll - Cardio Blitz until June 16!

Competition -- playing it by ear - I've got a couple other much larger things to be stressed about at the moment so I'm completely playing it by ear and not setting any expectations....
