Off the top of my head Obvious macros for a candy bar would have more artifical ingredients as well as 3-5 X as many carbs, higher cals, less protein if memory serves me correct. :)

Like I stated in my log, I could have easily matched my back squat current max (which is nothing to brag about), but didn't wanna push it (i.e training for show etc).

I'll see how they progress... Back Squats are on 2nd leg day. We shall see :)

I've never tried that. I like the President's Choice ANPB, but it's not available everywhere. The flavored fill me up & kind a give me a stomach ache.

*Got there 5:46pm... Squat rack occupied with old buddies of mine grrrr... ~ 6:20pm rolls around ... MY TURN :evil: Lost ALOT of my enthusiam and zest for lifting... filled time with some random low intensity cardio*

Nice job on your first PR-matching workout. Don't worry too much or let it throw you off if submaximal sets occasionally feel more difficult than expected. It's normal, and you'll usually get the top set even if you finish set 4 thinking "how the hell am I going to do 10-15% more than this?"

Your #'s looked good, great job on hitting all the lifts. :) Nothing like 'waiting' to ruin your workout. Good thing about these logs is you can see when you are happy & have a great workout, then you can see things slip when situations like this happen. You can tell by the tone of your post and previous posts when it's just off. I hate that feeling.

Keep at it, you are doing great and think of it as learning experience for trying something new. :)

Nice work Sarge - great workout. I wish Omega were reading your log cause he would have chimmed in w/ an Amp02 comment - I do think it is a viable product for a 5x5 style - especially for days like today.

The benches are a MF I'm tellin' ya bro. They just kept getting harder for me, but my max went up.

Glad to hear the lumbar is showing some respect where it is obviously due. Nice job all around. Eat big.

^^^Agreed. Although, in sarge's defense, he's probably been pretty busy; he said he'd be doing the day 2 and 3 workouts out of town because of a business trip.

Yes, I've been BEYOND busy ... didn't even have time to open my books to do course work that I had to do :rolleyes:

Workout 2 ... check

Workout 3 ... not yet

Couldn't find a gym on the day I was supposed to do it, the next day found a friggin' awesome Health club in the area (no big commerical gyms within 30 miles of where i was... the Gold's moved that i was thinking of).

Short run down on Workout 2: Increased poundage on all lifts cuz I had an extra day of rest and ate like a retard... huge meals and sugary junk, ect... just plain ol' BAD, lol... BUT couldn't hit last rep on Deadlift, but it was heavier than I was supposed to go and i'm alternating with P. Cleans... I did DL numbers for last week but upped weight a tad... i'll type out later.

workout 3 should be tonight... just got back from driving 6 hours... don't think my gym is open nor did I eat as I should have.

I visited a ton of family where I was at as well and got "omg, you're getting so big" from about 6 different reletives... age ranging from 15 years old to 70ish, lol... I put some of my large reletives to shame at the dinner table too :RADAR :lmao:

Was BLOATED to all hell for about 3 days... for water intake of just about zilch... pounded water yesterday, feel hella better... I'm guessing I weighed about 225 lbs 2 days ago ...

Weigh in a few minutes ago: 219.5 lbs :evil:

Stupid non-plat... grrrr, gotta deal with that too. Any good promos coupons going around to re sign Plat?? :verygood:

My subscription page is ridonculous, lol... lots of catching up to do on here I see :)

I may drop the bench increment to 2lbs (just use OLY spring collars..1lb each.) from now on... or switch things up and do bench before squat... dunno yet... I was scared on that 2nd rep though i'm not going to lie, prolly what made the 3rd rep go easier, LOL!

Nice work. Good call on taking the time you need for rest between sets. Not dicking around and working at a good pace is fine, especially on the earlier sets, but don't rush on those last couple sets.

IMO, microloading is the way to go on bench. Going up by, say, 2 pounds one week, 3 the next (or 2.5 per week if you get some microplates), will add up, even if it doesn't seem like much. If you keep up the progress for a few months, which a lot of people seem to do on their first run, you'll be very close to putting up two plates for 5 by the end.

Nice work. Good call on taking the time you need for rest between sets. Not dicking around and working at a good pace is fine, especially on the earlier sets, but don't rush on those last couple sets.

IMO, microloading is the way to go on bench. Going up by, say, 2 pounds one week, 3 the next (or 2.5 per week if you get some microplates), will add up, even if it doesn't seem like much. If you keep up the progress for a few months, which a lot of people seem to do on their first run, you'll be very close to putting up two plates for 5 by the end.

Great workout, Sarge. Sounds like your energy is high too, so things are going well recovery-wise.

Rest time will do miracles. LoL An extra 30 seconds is worth it if it helps you get your reps w/ good form.

You know your program better than I do, but are you supposed to be peaking to 1x5 on all three exercises? None of my business really, just curious. I think it'd be real tough to hit a 1x5 max on squat, then bench, then row. LoL

As long as I get my carbs in before lifting I'm good to go :) Mental mood/stress is another beast I tame daily, lol.

Recovery is on point I think... not sure how to gauge it. I'm ready to train 24/7 for the most part, lol ... ok, ok... a few hours after training then i'm ready to go again :)

Hmm... peaking 1x5? I'm sure someone else could answer better than I but i'll try. I'm doing (for the most part) the standard Bill Star 5x5

Day 1 5x5 day
Day 2 4x5 and light squat day
day 3 max 2nd to last sets are three reps PR's now... then back off set

and then on day one i'll do 5 reps of the new weight.

.. I tried. Hope it made some sense.

I've been on the 5x5 for 2 weeks now, got in a fight this weekend and messed up my hand pretty bad, now i cant do any of the exercises i'm guessing for a good week..What do you reccommend?

one: I reccomend stop fighting
two: I reccomend doing whatever you can in the gym while you heal
three: If you can't stabilize the bar for Back squat... do leg presses.
four: Don't do anything to mess up your injury in the gym, let it heal.
five: Once healed, start over and no fights, or be more agilie to swing a nice round house to the mouth next time, lol.

PB, IMO running the program pretty much as written (i.e. all 5RMs on Day 1) isn't an issue and is almost certainly the way to go the first time around. If sarge's squat were disproportionately high like his deadlift compared to bench/rows, it might be an issue, but the program seems to have worked pretty well as is for a lot of people since it's really just three maximal sets total.

More friggin' people that i haven't seen for 1 or 2 months said I was huge today... :rolleyes: I don't want attention... FUCK OFF! I do this for me, no one else. ... Especially when they say I looked way better when I was lean (they're thinking of years ago 170-180 lbs)... blah. /venting.

Well it's been more dirty than a clean bulk so far... time to clean it up after 5 weeks of eating everything and anything... lawrdy I love being a fat kid :RADAR :verygood:

Hoping to get some body comp changes out of this 3 to 4 week switch up while still hitting PR's :)

*In a nutshell it's no longer eat any and all... actually, hasn't even been that way (surprizingly i can eat more, lol)... just taking it down a notch or two and adding more clean foods and less "cheating"*

Have you considered doing what AB did and seeing a physiologist about your back? He eventually grew exasperated by the temporary/non-solutions offered by the chiro and had an ultrasound that identified the imablances that were causing the problem, and got a list of stretches/exercises to address it.

My chiro has identified the problem imbalances & gave solutions he is paid a few bucks out of pocket... I'm happy with what gets done.

I have streches to do, i just need to do them.

Problem #1 besides that is my bed... I need a new one :(

72 non-stop rotations was my max before I tripped up, lol

Average was probably 30-40 rotations before taking a 30 second max break

This is sorta a question for T since he knows a ton about the carryover from the other lifts to deadliftss: should sarge still shoot for +10 pounds every two weeks on deads even though one of the two workouts is the CNS Saver Combo?

What I did the last DL day was not the scheduled poundage... it was more than 10lbs and only missed the last rep on the last set. MY plan was to just do the previous week/the week that Power Cleans are performed = the next weeks DL numbers.

I feel ready to hit Deads... could do them tomorrow, but I like doing the Cleans too... And I shouldn't go back and forth so i'll just hit the Cleans.

Diet today, Great!

- Shake: 2 scoops whey, mixed berries (blue, rasp, straw.), pineapple, 1 tbl ANP, H20, dash of OJ, splash of whole milk. Cut back the cals today in it.

next 2 were same:
ground beef, piece of chicken breast, bunch of veggies (peas, carrots, green beans... i'm out of brocolli :( ), brown rice, with Olive oil before microwaving up.

^^^ about 10-12 oz. milk with the last two also

I'm going to feed again soon... not sure what yet though...

lol... yeah really, well thank you. I appreciate that.

I figured that day with the extra rest and the fresh bakery donuts from a mom and pop shop (to DIE for... warm when i got them), and all the eating I was doing I'd be a little ambitious... eh, next time I know to be more careful :)

So BiggT what cha gotta say on that?... I think the question is back a page now... not yet, one more post and I think it might be though.
