It's moderate cal. day.. i'll have oats tonight too, in preparation for tomorrows "Friday" lifting routine (saturday).... i'm not sure when i'm going to hit the gym probably mid-late afternoon. I'm not a morning BIG lifter. Cuz i donl't have enough fuel in me yet to power the core lifts. Morning cardio/whatever lifter sure... but not this routine, no way am I going to attempt it.

~9:00am
1.5 cups of Oats (honey mixed in, and some splenda)
5 eggs (with a little cheese scrambled in)
16 oz Milk
8 oz OJ

~12:00pm
~ 40 grams Whey
10oz Milk + some h20 for filler
2 Tb. ANPB
Handfull of Almonds

2:05pm
1 Chicken breast (8-10oz)
.75 cup brocolli
1 good size Sweet potato (Cancelled, the one i thought i had here... was bad, lol)
1 cup oats instead
Olive Oil
Sea salt
Little handful of almonds

3:55pm
I'm hungry :evil:
Glass of milk and some more almonds

{I swore I ate something else somewhere here... blah}

10oz 100% Apple Juice

{30 mins of Cardio here}

just woke up again. 7:30am I was up for my PPH (lol) but now i'm up for good. 11 hours sleep :garza:

My back is ... wow... damn sore.

Going to make a super shake concotion thingy for some immediate fuel.

Ingredients:

Oats
Whey
Honey
Apple Juice
Milk

and whatever else I deem appropriate :) maybe a banana.

Can't wait to lift today and get that workout rollin' :coffee:

Left hip is talkin' shit again... i think it has to do with me needing more streching especially going ATF squats 3 x week now...

Cardio and Streching time :coffee:

I did about 40 minutes of cardio between walking Incline treadmill, Level 5 stationary bike... 10 minutes Hill Intervals on Arch to finish me off

3 sets of rope crunches in there too.

Just ate a whole pizza to make it all worth while :RADAR :evil:

PR: 210.0 lbs with shorts, T, sneakahs on before gym (1ish) .... lol, weight PR's :lmao: good stuff :chomp:

...just checked without the sneakers 208.5 lbs :evil:

I see and pinch Zero new fat on me :) quality weight :verygood:

Gotta find out if my gym can do a BF testing on me for reference :coffee:

Nice finish to your first week on the program...those "perfect" workouts leave you feeling great for days. And speaking of how you're feeling, do I owe you some karma due to sore legs from Thursday/Saturday's workouts?

I'm at ~4800 cals for the day .. I don't think I can go any higher without feeling uncomfortable :) One girl commented that she can easily eat 10K on a cheat day .. I cannot fathom it at this time ... maybe if :martini:'s were involved.. sheesh, that's alot of dang food if I'M stuffed ya know? And I can EAT! Hmm now that I think about, think Denny's & Chili's :lmao: :chomp: That for sure would bump to at least 7K, but 10K? That's insane ...

I just use myself as a test subject b/c no one in their right mind logs a cheat, or takes the time to do so, takes pics post cheat, or weighs themselves post cheat... at least I found that to be the case with the majority of people on cutting diets... I do all of the aforementioned lol :D

It's funny though, I see *cheat meal* and they still fall within their caloric range for the day, and I see what they eat.. I'm like WTF is Pizza in the Chicago 3 x as fatty as the pizza these people are logging?? or are they fudging the #'s & just lying to themselves ... feel me? ;)

keep up that eating...diet is looking good i think for your goals. i wouldn't get over that 12-13% bf range though...it will be alot tougher to get back down.

are you measuring the bf consistently?

Thanks bro... definetly keepin' the fat depositation in check. Nothing visibly added... just slight bloat from all the milk :)

Nope. I have thought about getting it checked, although I'm not sure i'd trust the pansy ass PT's in my gym :rolleyes: ... we'll see.

SGT!! U can buy the calipers and do the 1 spot test for constant numbers..

its one inch above the right hipbone is the quick 1 spot test. Of course u can do the 7spot test, but usually what matters is the 1 main spot..

besides u can see if the bf% is constant, just by checking 1 spot.

you want to know what's weird on me though?

... the hip bone area is vacular and paper thin...but the lower abs have a good size pinch.... lol. I'm keeping track via the hand grab on my lower abs.... if I start to get a DUNLAP... belive me diet will be highly scrutinized, lol.

I look forward to lifting like never before now that it's only 3x week training... I dig it though.

Food has been pretty good today... no real quality food til' later but overall ... good eatin' day.

Just cooked up 5 lbs of chicken, 2 lbs of beef... a huge pot full of brown rice and some veggies :) I'm all set til' the weekend hopefully :coffee:

Oh... i think weight in this am after PPH was 204.5 lbs

*most posted measurments are estimations, I don't measure everything... However, I did measure oats and eggs this am... Milk I drink out of 8 or 16oz glasses (OR out of a protein shaker with measurments on the side... like todays 12oz). Just ask if u want to know specifically if I had measured something*

9:30am
1 cup Beaters, 2 whole eggs, good amount of cheese mixed in... Ketchup on top :verygood:
1.25 cup Oats with splenda and milk

On training days it's PureCEE... I don't need the stimulant, nor want them in my system anymore. If at all I will take a green tea cap in the am.

Start low...whatever you find works for ya, if it works great at 3 ... it'll last you a lot longer u know... at 10 when i was doing my old routine RIDICULOUS pumps.... I tried it with the 5x5... just doesn't work the same on this type of routine. I'll use it when i switch back at some point in the next 3-4 months.

Newb 5 x 5 Questions:

(1) Are you suppose to increase your lifts (i.e. 5th set squat) if you feel you can go heavier? Or are you suppose just stick with the projected calculations on your spreadsheet?

(2) Re: Bench ... what happnes if you do stall out on your next bench day? Does it mess with your #'s since you typically increase in weight every workout? Or do you recalculate to compensate for the stall out?

I'm willing to bed those hypers are causing the lower back pump :) Seems you often remark about your back after doing them ... Unless it's that awesome way you sleep :)

for me personally on the last set....if i can get 1 or 2 more i do it....otherwise i feel like i had an incomplete workout....i don't know the right answer to this and not sure if there really is one...i say go on how you feel bro...your doing a great job and doing that extra rep on the last set if your feeling it is not going to hurt you....my 2c

Goodjob SGT, remember the Claculations are just ESTIMATES. If you feel u can do the extra 5lbs DO IT. But dont jump too much at once....
I was doing 300x5, but realized i was too low w/ my sqaut #'s now its up to 360x5. Its just a program, it cant tell how good ur doing, it can just give u estimates, so if you feel u can handle it then do it. but still remember u dont want to over train, this program NEEDS rest to go up on lifts...

Bench will always stall first, WHY? because we train our chest preety much our entire lives. Think about it, have u sqauted like this ever in the past? most answers are NO. BUT i bet you did train chest reguardless at the gym. So basically ur chest has adapted to the stress.. Oh and another note, the LEGS and BACK are huge muscle groups, the bench muscles are the tris, pecs, shoulders and some lats. Not really a big muscle groupe such as your legs..

Bunny, like i posted above, i have asked the same questions because i wondered as well, but from all the replies i got it preery much is like this: If you can handle it, then you can do it. The program just estimates where he should be at, no way to actually PROVE where he should be at unless he tries for it. 5-10lbs incremements are ok, BUT if u felt like adding 20lbs and he actually mustered enough energy for 5, i bet he wouldnt be able to hit the same weight for the next workout. 5-10 increments build 'real' muscle as i would say. BUT honestly, this 5x5 plan you need to rest/build. So if you can handle the extra 20, should you completely drain yourself doing the extra 20? No, he should aim for the extra 10, so he will be able to recover for the next w/o. :qt:

If he stalls (maybe only gets 4 reps instead of 5) then next workout, he sticks with the same numbers....so instead of jumping weight on friday for the last set of 3, try to get the 5 reps of the missed weight, then come back on monday and do monday's last w/o again and proceed to jump weight up on friday. But since bench is the hardest lift to improve, you might have to bench the same numbers untill u NAIL the lift.

And I'd rather add 5-10 max per week and be progressing more over the long run than add 30lbs and screw myself over... we'll see how my conditioning goes :evil:

If you went for 225x10, then it will DEF drain u on the bench, i like to bench first on days where im 'iffy' with the weight so i have all i got. It seems sqauting drains my bench, but not VISE VERSA.

But what weeks are you in? Week 2 weds right? If so, i wouldnt revamp the #'s as of yet. I know they are lighter then what your used to working with. BUT YOU'LL BE IN WEEK 4-5 BEFORE U KNOW IT. So if ya not in weeks 4 yet, then dont bother really trying to keep banging weight. I know its hard to be like WOW i have PLENTY left in the tank, but i should stop now. BUT it has to be done! The program is loading you nicely into your maxes....

The 2nd run im not even deloading, just keeping it going from where i left off, in fact i got new maxes and replugged em in, and im starting from week 4 on my sheet because i dont feel i need to be 'loaded' into my new maxes i want to keep growing...

Trust in the program, its DEF lighter then u want but going overboard in weeks 1-3 could kill u in the long run, you need to have them muscles very conditioned for the beating they will be going through lol

Great! Remember, even if your not going to the limits, you are still adding 5+lbs on the bar each week. So reguardless if ur killing urself at the gym, the weight on the bar will go up. Think about it, if your sqauting 250x5, if u stick on the program for 8 weeks and add 5lbs to the bar weekly, u will now have a 290x5 sqaut. 12 weeks a 310x5(but i know ull just go w/ 3 plates lol).

And thats w/o revamping numbers just going with the program....

I'm going to go against the grain and say, at least for the ramp-up, to stick to the plan. You should feel like you can do more than your top set in week 2: it's sub-maximal. You start conservatively, build up some progression as you increase to your max, then pass it and set new PRs. Think about those guys who go into the gym every week and try to hammer away at their max without any progression: they're the ones who say stuff like "I usually bench X pounds". In other words, their maxes aren't going anywhere.

As you get into the PR weeks, you can play it by ear more with the increases. Depending on diet and other factors that affect recovery, you may be able to do more or less than the standard ~5 lbs/week for squats/deads and ~2.5 lbs/week for presses/rows. If you get to rep 5 on your max set and think "is that all?", instead of trying to see how many more you can do, just make a note to yourself to take a larger jump the following week. As you get into the PR weeks, you can play it by ear more with the increases. Depending on diet and other factors that affect recovery, you may be able to do more or less than the standard ~5 lbs/week for squats/deads and ~2.5 lbs/week for presses/rows. If you get to rep 5 on your max set and think "is that all?", instead of trying to see how many more you can do, just make a note to yourself to take a larger jump the following week. Relaxing, Eating, Cleaning... tomorrow... Deadlifting 342x5 top set :evil: :rolleyes: lol. (Squats and OHP are on the list as well)

Contemplating doing Deads first... probably not though cuz after deads i'm toast and stumble outa the gym... eh, we'll see :)

gotta enjoy those days off from the gym... although it takes a little getting used to not being in the gym 6 days a week i guess

it's ALOT different from my old routine though bro... used to love lifting (not cardio) 6-7 ... maybe a 2x day sessions in there..

More and more on the 5x5 I'm needing the off days to recover, lol... they're good and bad at the same time if that makes sense :rolleyes:

It's deffinetly different... and I'm likeing it so far. Although I need to do cardio on off days more.

Always squat before you DL.....the only pulls you should ever do before squatting are olympic lifts.....you'll ruin the whole workout if you DL first, lol.

Waistline looks really slim in the leg pic. No love handles to be seen. Keep squatting deep and your quads will grow.

yeah i'm still fitting into my 32's ... friggin' tight... so i've moved on to a few pairs of 34's that I have... AHHH much better fit in glutes and thighs now... they've deff made some improvement already... i'll take a better pic, that shows overall big picture.

Maybe i can get a side pic show so more meatiness. I need more meat at the bottom of my quad for sure... naturally it's all up middle to top as you can see. Even flares out a bit from my hip... weird right? Maybe why my hip was messed up without streching much.

Thanks bro... will do! In the Squat Rack :evil: lol...every time i go to the gym now... first thing... Squat rack, lol... I haven't touched a Dumbell since I dunno...seems like forever, lol... 2+ weeks :rolleyes:

I agree with the ladies' (and al420's) verdict: you're looking lean and can definitely add some more quality pounds without fat getting out of control. Good call moving to the 34s; you'll just have to get used to being pissed off every time you go to shop for jeans because the waist:leg/glute ratios weren't determined with squatters in mind. ;) Illuminati ranted about this rather amusingly a while ago.
