rib problem

hi guys, popped my rib out again, this time doing nothing even remotely close to lifting. i don't know what to do, i rest it, ice it, tape it up...got a meet in january.....anyone with suggestions? would be much appreciated:) the rib is the highest one next to my clavicle

OUCH!

How does one pop a rib out, if I may ask?

Have you seen a doctor?

I have honestly never heard of this type of injury happening unless a fight with Jack Dempsey was involved.

Best wishes to a swift recovery.

pod,

a few years ago, i had wierd rib pain in both the center of my chest at sternum as well as to the left.

it got so bad at one point, i thought i was having a heart attack! i drove to the hospital and had an ekg. it was fine.

i went through xrays, mri's, bone scans. no one could find a damn thing. this went on for months and i was gobbling ibuprofen like candy.

i finally found a chiropractor who was able to knock the rib back in place. i am a big guy and it took a big man to be able to do this.

i had to continue this treatment for 6 months before it started to go away.

to this day, it flares up, but i can generally get my wife to stomp on my back and fix it up. i also ordered a special device that is used to pop the rib in place. it's called an activator i believe.

long story short: rib injuries are very difficult to diagnose. the medical term for my condition is costochondritis (inflammation of the chest wall)....

you may want to get a chiropractor but be careful, because a lot of them are quacks.

lol Irishpower, for having your wife stomp on your back, sorry to hear your rib is bothering you again P.O.D. My injury of that nature never came back but I train with someone who has the exact same thing happen and he just has someone adjust him in the gym to get it back in. hope it goes away.later.

Wow, the advice here is worth more than words can express. Unbelievable, seriously.

Is this a usual occurence when one gets freaky strong (ie powerlifting elite)?

Come to think about it, I used to have problems with my upper back ribs doing weird things on me when I was younger. I guess it is not as uncommon as I thought.

this used to happen all the time when i was dieted down (no body fat to hold it in it's socket) but it's happening again, and i'm off season, just twisted wrong too, nothing strenuous done...it really sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
