Regain Cardio?

Canwood

Hey all,
I have basically a month or so until lacrosse season starts in my area. I haven't trained cardio since Sept, and I'll be running my ass off as soon as the season starts.
Question is:

What's the best method to regain lost cardiovascular capacity? Other than "just doing it", does anyone have any specific training methods?

Interval training. Keep it sports specific, with work and rest intervals being similar to what you would do on the field.

This is a good program that you could easily fit into any schedule, for field athletes such as yourself:
http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/training/madmax.htm

Also look into any of Coach Davies' work (www.renegadetraining.com).

I play 5-a-side soccer, and perform 3 cardio orientated sessions a week, and weights 4 times a week.

Two of my cardio sessions are grueling 400m workouts (http://t-forums.t-mag.com/readTopic.do?id=247258), and they kick arse.

The other is a 20 minute interval cycling session:
3 minutes warm-up
7 x 30 seconds hard, 90 seconds easy
3 minutes cool-down

There are lots of studies to back up that intensity is the key, as you can only improve your actual VO2 Max by a small percentage, and training your energy systems to function at that VO2 Max for the longest time possible, is much more important.
