Anyone know about rap, the rap scene and the rap biz or even good rap sites?

cuz I'm writing a movie script for a friend ... :

Synopsis: A 'mockumentary' comedy about a fictional rap group, following their roots in la, to their rise of the rap charts and their eventual downfall.

Details: The story follows a fictional rap band of 3 black artists, and 1 'token white guy' (prolly make him fat too), and the following 'spinal tap meets the office meets curb your enthusiasm' style, follows the band as they become a nationwide rap sensation. Guest cameos by various movie and rap artists.

I'm just writing a quick "pitch script:". you know how much i love to type. hehe. but i know shit about rap and i'm not even gonna pretend i do.

So i'm gonna need 'resources' (people or websites) to fill out 'realism inner joke details' later.

goal btw is always: write and pitch lotsa scripts - then people who love it, throw money at you if they like it and wanna finance it

Talk to MC Platano (Gabe Hernandez) from 108 Tongues, Yale University's premier hip-hop group. He's on Facebook and MySpace.

thanks. i need to create 8-10 'realistic incidents' a rap group would usually face in the beginning, middle and top of their game. like touring stories, personal problems, groupies, copyrights, recording, etc. then i can take those and create 'comedy' around them.

eg: rock bands. the typical groupie who sleeps with the band, the manager who rips everyone off, the promoter who takes most of their money, former band members who sue for royalties, etc.

whatcha think of these characters grandmaster biteme?

lead singer: a ripped hardcore rapper...who likes mariachi music, and has a fat white wife at home, who he hides from the media.

rap band member #2: hardcore gangsta rapper. but in relaity, a nerd who plays video games at home, loves astronomy, and drinks tea after shows. but in magazines, brags he's lived from the streets and has 'ho's.

rap band member #3: womanizing fat black rapper. always arguing. like larry david from curb your enthusiasm. takes things so seriously. kinda like the dwight of the office.

rap band member #4: white fat rapper. the 'token white member'. running joke in the movie: people keep sayin "i didn't know rap bands needed a token white guy". he's alos the most serious and knows most about 'rap', and writes all the songs. he's also "white".

manager: sleazy old white guy. loves to argue back. think a jon lovitz character.

i'll work more on the characters later.

Friend of mine was the stage manager for JayZ for a while (may still be for all I know, haven't heard from him in years...). I'm sure it's different now that he's rich and famous, but in the early days when he was touring in a package tour with L'il Bow Wow, both artists' stage acts consisted of a tech throwing their CD into a player, and then the artists would just rap on top of it with a live microphone. They weren't even special show discs or anything, just the same CD you could buy at Walmart.

Perhaps that element of cheesy fakery could be worked into your plot?

thanks.

i've also talked to a promoter who rants about 'riders' about rappers and how outrageous they are. so i'll make fun of that.

i can think of playing a joke on what u said; by writing a scene where a tech puts in the wrong cd. maybe the band hitting the stage, and sweet home alabama starts playing or something. and the band on stage looking real confused. that would be funny.

I don't know where, but there are some sites with contract riders for various celebrities.

I live in Yonkers. Home of Mary J, DMX, Lox, etc...
Jada Kiss lives in my building in Yonkers. If your real, send me some info and I will pass it on. We grew up playing ball together. Know since we were 12.

Check out You Tube and type in Jada Kiss, Yonkers, DMX, etc... They did a doc a couple years back before everyone blew up. Now they all have money and can maybe make a good one. Good luck!
