I did a search but as with each search a gabillion threads popped up...I'm looking for "convenience and quickness". (<~~single mommy mode)

What's the quickest/effective protein shake to buy/mix?

Also, what different ingredients can you put in them? (and it still be healthy of course) ((please tell me how much of each ingredient))

Wanna get rolling with the pwo shakes this week. Thanks all!

I go by taste and prefer the chocolate flavor from Optimum Nutrition (also their Vanilla Ice Cream flavor) and the chocolate from SportPharma (got it at Costco). Those 2 brands are similar in their nutrition profile....

For post workout -- mix it in skim milk + some water & ice if you need to...

Before bed -- no milk, water + a fat (like flax oil)

Also, if you're a coffee drinker, save your leftover coffee & freeze it in ice cube trays & put the cubes in a plastic baggie. When you blen up a choc. protein shake, throw one in -- YUM!! Like a mocha Latte!!

Hey chicas,

Another question...what's the purpose of a shake before bed? Should this replace dinner? And how does it work for the bod. Are they necessary?? Trying to figure out how many of these i should have a day/week.

BTW...thanks SO much for the 411 on shakes. I started this am...it was actually super yummy. (check back with me in a few weeks...heh may be hatin')

Ah yes, almost forgot...is one brand better than another as far as nutrition? Anything specific I'm looking for when buying? I recently bought SlimWhey mocha. (shoulder shrug) Suggestions?

Well, a shake before bed is a way to 1) get some extra protein in 2) prevent your muscle from catabolizing overnite and 3) when mixed with a fat, it's slow absorbing by your body....

Basically, a good rule of thumb is to have anywhere from 5-7 small meals per day..... and a lot of people cannot eat enough protein in the form of food, hence the use of shakes....

As for the SlimWhey -- what does the label say as far as per serving cals/protein/carb, etc??

My ON & Sport Pharma are about 110 cals per serving, 23g protein, 2g carb, etc
