Question for all of the Personal Trainers

How much do you charge per session? How do you advertise your business? What Insurance do you have if any?

The reason i am asking is because i want to compare rates in different states.

Thanks,
Insano

i train people at their houses, i used to work in a studio, but i have a full time job and do some training on the side..in home rates can vary from $60-$75... i have friends who get $100-$125/hr in Greenwhich Ct. it varies by location.
in the gym training is also abut $50-$60...and if you dont know the owner and/or have to give the gym a cut, it really sucks..in home training is great, and no hassles with gym owners.

as far as insurance, whomever you are certified with should offer some..i am certified by ISSA..even though i think all certifiications are bullshit and i only took it for the insurance purposes and to have some stupid card that says "ISSA Certified Personal Trainer", i get my insurance through them.

as far as advertising....WORD OF MOUTH...i also printed up flyers at my job and drove around the rich peoples neighboorhood where i train clients. you could also take an ad out in the local paper or do a mailing, buy a mailing list.

im in NY btw.

How do you train them in house? Do they have to have equipment or what?

yes they all have some sort of universal gym or some set up, some have a full huge ass room of stuff, treadmill, bike, DB rack, universal machine....my clients are all rich ass yuppies lol....they even say * tell us what to buy and we will* they take me to the gym outlets and i pick out what i want them to buy, one peice cost $8000, they were like cool get it. lol

but some dont have much, thats where band work, swiss ball, plyometrics, body bar, jump rope, boxing gloves and pads, and all sorts of neat shit comes in, most of the *floor trainers* at the gym wouldnt know what to do with half that crap, i took many classes with these various *workout tools* and just have the knowlegde from doing this for so long. i can even train some of these clients (usually women) with no weight at all...home training is fun, these people dont give a shit, all we do is talk about crap and gossip for the full hour, im always busting thier balls and literally kicking them or yelling, if they do push ups ill call them names and shit for being such a pussy and to fo 2 more reps, or ill sit on thier backs and talk shit lol, its kinda fun...rich people are always in a good mood lol
...i got this one guy who stops for like 10 minutes to watch CNBC with me during the workout, hes some big shot wallstreet mofo.

oh i also have serious clients, young kids in high school or college sports and older guys and girls who are serious, even have a few guys who are on juice lol

most gym owners are anal like that..no matter what..they want their inhouse trainers doing the training not someone they didnt hire.....some gym owners are cool, years ago i worked at a gym and the owner only made me give him $15 a session for each clietn and $10 a session if i did 10 or more per week...i thought that was great. my buddy works at a gym and the owner is real real cool, we train with him sometimes, he pays the owner the same $15 per session, and he charges like $75.

ive always wanted to own a gym until i worked at a one-one-one studio..these places are maybe 1000-2000 sq feet compared to a gym that can be anywhere from 10,000-20,000 or more....and the studio makes as much if not more $$$ with NO headaches, and the place runs itself. the owners used to rarely come in, we the trainers ran the place and made the appointments.....another good thing about working at one, a trainer is literally handed clients with no work on thier part finding them...i used to regularly train 10-12 clients a day, everyday, just handed to me.

my old bosses at this studio are amazing...the place was small yet they grossed like $1million a year...we did about 300-350 sessions per week..6 at a time, 2 rooms 3 trainers up stairs and 3 downstairs. if i ever decide to do it, im going to open a studio, no doubt about it.

Capt, I'll ask you again, would you please do me a favor and edit
Insano Groupie Qualifications #3:

"3:You must have "Skank" tendencies...don't worry..most elite women do."

Like the last four words or so. Since your posting on the Women's Board and all.

Unless all you Elite Ladies don't MIND being called skanks.....

Warlobo-Is it really that big a deal? if i am offending any multitude women on this board i would gladly edit the last four words of #3...hell i did it yesterday by changing all to most for you bro.

Thanks NY Muscle! You have provided some nice insight for me. Where in NJ have you trained people...what towns? Mendem? Morristown? The reason i ask is because you had mentioned you train in peoples house...how did you get your cliental originally?

Thanks,
Insano

i train people in NY....mainly in Chappaqua, Thornwood, Bedford, the rich areas.

i actually got my cliental from the studio i worked at, once the clients found out i was leaving the studio for a full time job in finance, they decided to leave also and have me train them at home, then more word of mouth came from them.........i never signed the waiver at the studio when i originally was hired that said i cant solicite/train any of the clients from the studio when i no longer work there, so legally i have nothing to worry about.

Very cool NY muscle thanks for your input!

Warlobo- if it makes you a happier person i will oblige.

I've personally feel that when Captain says "skank" tendancies he means it with the utmost respect for the lovely ladies on this board. I'm not offended by it...it's one thing to lovingly be called a "skank" vs being called out as an insult. Just my 2 cents. ;)

Kate

Perhaps a slight edit from the word "most" to "some" (so we don't feel alone) would be better??

More input about rates for PT from any of the females on the women's board would be appreciated.

thanks,
Insano
