problem--need best exercise

iv always thought i worked my chest, shoulders and back equally--i guess not--i need the best back/trap exercise that will help retract my shoulders
 
Deadlifts, the single best exercise in my personal opinion. Hits a shitload of muscle groups very intensely (sparking up more growth overall). Plus, a strong spinal erector provides good posture. Bent over rows are awsome for the back too.
Deadlift = lower back mainly
Bent over row = mid-upper back
 
Since it sounds like you have encountered a muscular inbalance between your chest and your back, and would like your traps to pull your shoulders back... I'd hit some bent over rows, and maybe some wide grip seated rows....

Yes deadlifts are an asset to any back routine, but I think your problem would be more easily solved by a movement that would pull your traps and romboids into the plain you want them to sit naturally...

if you need your shoulders to be pulled back, its gotta be mainly bent bb rows or a deadlift type movement. Something thats heavy, and allows external roatation.... pullups are in the wrong plane
