Posts appearing on search engines!

Re: I hear what your saying

But, I'm sure there is a way that they can enter extra code that would not allow the search engines to add that in their meta tags or call.

hmm - I program this shit all day (I was working on a version of this site that they were going to use and this is one thing I considered).
the only way I can think of it is that for each post someone does, if they don't want thieir shit to be indexed, then they check the box and then that page gets rendered with the meta tag that tells the search engine not to index that page....

but I still maintain that this isn't going to happen. I don't say it is the way I'd want it, but I also see George's point of view as well

Ok, then you admit that it can be done. It would take some work is what you're saying, But ultimately it can be done. I know you know what you're talking about and so do I. I oversee a technology team myself and know that it is possible. Anything is possible.

I'm saying that I think something should be done to correct this because he has a lot of loyal patrons that come to this website (not to mention the people who are also customers) and he should not be allowing the posts from these forums to show everywhere if it is at the expense of the loyal members he already has.

Technically it can be done (keeping your pages from being indexed by search engines), BUT:

- there is no way you can get existing posts out of the indexes

- Google doesn't listen very well to the exclusion meta tag so good luck stopping Google from indexing everything

- Basically, that's the problem with the Internet. It is PUBLIC and being well known feeds on itself. Not only will search engines link this stuff but nothing can stop people around the world from linking to your site, and those links themselves may get into search engines.

A private board, or simply one that isn't very well known (and one that the owner never submits to any search engines), is the only real solution.

You know, anyone can set up a private discussion board - you could even start a Yahoo! Club at http://clubs.yahoo.com and set it to "Private." Eventually they would decide you were violating their terms of service and shut it down, but that's the general idea anyway.

Let's face it, we aren't very safe here. The better known a board gets, the better off people will be not using that board... sorry George but that's the way this game works!
