I usually don't get to workout until 8 pm. Once I get home it's around 10 pm. Is it safe to still eat a meal that late then go to bed or would a protein shake be better? Any advice would be helpful.
 
If you go to bed soon after, then yeah id say a shake. You need something after your workout to replenish your muscles no matter what time it is
 
When I was bulking (cleanly) I'd workout very late...at 1am I'd come home, have a shake and a small white potato to serve as a fast acting carb to help replenish glycogen stores...the person who told me this was a bodybuilder himself, I did this and still achieved low bodyfat and a great physique.
 
Thanks for the tip. I've always had a shake at minimum sometimes a chicken breast to go along also. I just didn't wanna start eating meals then sleeping right after it.
