Yet another birth control question.....But my situation is different.

I'm 25 yrs old and I've been w/ my husband for 9 yrs. now. And we've NEVER used any type of birth control (never had a reason to) We've always wanted kids. Anyway, In the past yr. I've had major menstrual cramps as well as a low sex drive. My doc has always recommend I get on the pill, due to family history of endometriosis and to help w/ the sickening pain. But I didn't want ta hinder my chances of getting pregnant in any way as well as put on any unneeded weight. I've got an appt. w/ my gyno this week and I'm thinking of going ahead and try'en the pill. I want to start training for figure fitness and maybe compete w/in the next 2 yrs. I guess what I'm trying ta say is, do you think the pill is right for me? I don't really need it for the birth control I need something that may help prevent cramps, endometriosis, and ovarian cancer w/out adding on weight. Is there something else out there that would better suit my situation? Sorry for the ignorance but I have no clue what ta do.

Maybe research a pill "Yasmin"

It is supposed to not cause the weight gain. I have no idea if it's true but maybe someone here has used it.:)

You can work with your doc to find a pill that works for you - I think from discussion on here the best (i.e. least weight gaining pill) is a low estrogen/progesterone combination. If you are thinking of competing in 2 years, you can go off the pill at pre comp time and then go back on afterwards. This will also give you lots of time to work w/ your doc to find the pill that works for you.

I've been on Trilevelin for almost 10 years - its a very low estrogen / progesterone combo and I personally don't think its affected my weight signficantly (as I've ALWAYS had that extra 10 lbs...). Though I do go off when I enter pre comp state.

I think its important that you weigh the pros & cons of it - weight gain is not a necessary result of BC, though it depends on you. I believe that even the in the optimal case, it would probably contribute to weight gain for competition. If it helps make your life better by removing the cramps, etc. then its probably worth taking the time to try to find one that meets your needs. But also be patient w/ this process as you might have to try a few different ones first and might experience more cramps, weight gain or spotting as your body deals w/ the new hormone regulation.

Thanks ladies for you help, I'll mention these to my doc.
I guess I'm just sick of going through this. (I'll try anything at this point)
I'm just paranoid about putting on the extra weight, (the older I get the harder it is ta keep the fat off my waist and hips) I've just now got down to where I wanna be and I've heard so many bad things about BC. But I guess the good thing 'bout it is I can always get off, if I notice any weight gain.
Thanks again.
