Peanuts and Bananas

New member
I literally eat peanuts and bananas at all hours of the day. Of course I have other foods like egg whites, tuna, lean meats, etc, but like clockwork I'll eat at least 2 or 3 bananas and .5 lb of peanuts a day. That is a little over 1000 cals. in peanuts alone. These are the unsalted dry roasted style. I literally have 6 1lb. containers in my pantry. Is this a bad thing? I know peanuts are good for unsat. fats and protein. I am bulking btw.

Why dont you vary the nuts a bit... almonds, peanuts, pistashio, cashu etc for their varying benefits. Too many nuts just block the back passage for me.

I agree with this. At work in our shop we go in on nuts. We buy a variety, walnuts, almonds, peanuts, pistachios. I snack on them all day when bulking alos. But the variety is good. Each different nut conveys some different health benefit.

For instance, walnuts are highest Omega 3:6 ratio of any nut.

A variety of nuts would be best. Pistachios in a one-ounce serving supplies more than 10% of the daily value for dietary fiber, vitamin B-6, thiamin, magnesium, phosphorus and copper. They are also high in plant sterols.

So eat up if buking, but don't limit yourself to one type.

if you are buling, everything is fair game...........just eat your ass off........as for bananas, i like to stay away from tons of vegggies and fruit during this time......bloats me up and is used more towards the dieting phase.....also, nix the carbs and fats in the same meal.........

Well, I have been eating a lot of mixed nuts too actually. We bought the party tub for Christmas. I think there are 4 or 5 different nuts in there. I probably ate half of that tub.

What do you mean by nix? Are you saying eat carbs and fats in the same meal or not?

When I posted my diet I got the advice to eat carb and protein meals and protein and fat meals and to break them up through out the day. Something like this http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444505
Post 18 is where it starts, has made me think a lot and do even more research!!! The more overall knowledge the better, check it out.

If you are dieting, this will work fine. What it does in essence is limit calories.

If you are not dieting, it is not necessary.

The main idea is insulin and fat storage. However, fat does not need insulin to be stored. It does a fine job on its own.

There are studies that have been published recently (dont ask me where I know I have read it) that peanuts are actually the worst of the nuts, possible carsigionic relations, but all the other nuts are good :D

if you have no allergic reactions to them (which many do) they are on top of the fats list....quality wise.......flax, almonds, fish oil, walnuts, peanuts....

Although mixed nuts are generally more expensive, I have been only buying these. I really can't get enough of them. My banana kick has been limited to breakfast only.

Walnuts are good....highest in w3-6 ratio. A recent research I just read found that eating 3 oz. of walnuts per day for 4 weeks reduced total cholesterol by 12%, but even more fascinating it lowered LDL by 18%!

Similar results were shown for almonds, cashews, pecans and even pistachios.

I would suggest one thing, watch what they are roasted in. Some are roasted in partially hydrogenated oils. I get them raw from my health food store.

walnuts are damn good...actually, no nuts really is bad at all....I myself enjoy shelled peanuts the best.....

I'd say if this is this combo you eat all the time, thats not a high enough protein ratio in your diet. For example at the moment I am actually eating a bag of peanuts. Per 100g there is 24.5g protein, 53.0g of fat and 7.1g of carbs. That is 29% protein, but if you add bananas, pure carbs, the figure goes much lower depending.

At the same time you wouldn't wanna just eat peanuts without bananas because there are basically no carbs which isn't very good for bulking, though maybe cutting.

Also, bear in mind all nuts aren't blessed with the protein content that peanuts have, some are almost totally made up of fat.

My advice would be to drink skimmed milk as a snack. Simple. Its about 35% protein and quite low in fat.

Take my previous comment back! My nuts have vegetable oil on them so that skewed the figures... least I tried!

Milk though, its great.

no more advice, ok????

way to many nuts in a day!!!! you are causing major back up in your system, nuts cause bloating and are hard to digest.
that is why the recomendations are a handful a day not the whole tub......

almonds, walnuts, and soynuts are the better choices
"unsalted" soynuts have 10g protein, 5 fiber, 7 fat[1 sat], 140 cal, for a 1/4 cup
NO cholesterol, sodium, sugars, or trans fats
and they are high in Isoflavones.

take a break for your digestive sytem ;)
