Pain during weighted dips

Rise No One

New member
Alright, so my weighted dips keep going up and up and I'm at 70, w my bodyweight at 184. My grip never changes, I always have gone wide grip for more chest isolation.

There's always been this slight pain while doing weighted dips, even when I started at 35s a few months ago, but recently since I've been hitting the 60+ I'm getting a sharp pain, particuarly in the right collar bone area(although it flairs out to the left side) immediatly after my set. The pain isn't unbearable, but it doesn't feel good:)

btw, I've had a broken collar bone b4 (long time ago though)

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this, and please don't tell me to lay off the weighted dips, I love them:-\

Thanks

Believe it or not, rotator cuff tears can shoot pains right through your colar bones. How do I know? Because I have torn the piss out of both of mine ;)...

Do you have any shoulder pains when doing other lifts? Even if you don't, I would still consult a doctor. Regardless of what it is, a pain shooting through your body is never normal. I would have it checked out before you possibly make it worse and for now, back off the weight on your dips and just do a higher volume till you find out whats going on. Not worth risking a progressive injury that could prohibit you from doing dips completely. Good luck

My general rule when lifting is never perform anything that is uncomfortable enough to cause pain. Perfect your form, if it is not already, or use other exercises.

Chest

And the pain is not during, it's after
I did shoulder/bicep today and there was a light pain, or uncomfortable feeling...very slight though

I'm hoping it doesn't have to do with rotator...

I've felt sternum pain that directly correlates to how often I do dips. I stopped doing weighted dips, the pain goes away.

It will come back every now and again, but is consistently gone when I don't do weighted dips.

I have no idea what the pain means... though I do know I'm not the only one who's felt it, as a couple of friensd have as well.

Bottom line... if it hurts, STOP.

There have been at least one or two styles of Dips mentioned as being risky for the rotator cuff. That's why I prefer Decline Dumbell Benches for that area of the chest. If you're using them primarily for the tris, I believe Seated Dumbell Overhead Extensions work well for the same areas of the tris. But I haven't done direct tricep work for a long time, so don't hold me to that.
