Warik,is that Maxima your first car? Maxima's are cool but front wheel drive is for chic's. (no offence ladies)
I thought you wanted a Mustang for the tuneability?

It's my first new car. I used to drive a '94 Ford Tempo. I don't know much about cars and modifying them and all that fun stuff. All I know is that I test-drove a Maxima one fateful day and it was mine a month later.

It has yet to disappoint me in even the remotely slightest way. When I'm a multimillionaire, I'm sure I'll have a Jaguar and a Benz just to, you know, have them... but I'll definately be driving a 2010 Maxima for all practical purposes. =)

Not my Maxima... the new Maxima. I have the 2000 Maxima GLE which has 222hp. The new 2002 Maxima has 255hp.

A Mustang GT is a two door sports coupe. Big difference between a 2 door sports coupe and a 4 door sports sedan.

HampterHider do you even want a 4 door car??? Is that a factor?

You can get a pretty sweet Dodge Durango or just about any comprable 2000 SUV for about 18K.

You're gonna get killed on the depreciation the minute you take a new American car off the showroom floor.

Think about perhaps a used (~3 years) 3 or 5 series BMW or the GS 300 Lexus; these are beautiful, quick, excellent cars that generally still look new at 30,000 miles and will run forever, are relatively straightforward to maintain, many have extended 100,000 mile warranties, will not break the bank, and depreciate very slowly. Check out eBay to get an idea of what you should be paying.

gt 4.6 or nothing

the 6 has NOOO power. If you are serious about this do what i did. I rented a mustang with the 6 banger in it and i hated it after a few hours. GO BIG or do go at all :-)

SB, IS THIS AVAILABLE FOR THE V6 OR 8?

V8 & V6. you would definitely have to beef up the suspension in the V6 if you added any kind of real HP. even the V8 is not equipped to reliably handle 400HP without some mods, but people do it all the time. typically for the strip. a few manufacturers are paxton, vortec & holley.
if you wanna go with comfort in the lincoln, they also can have extras added to them for speed.
