Oh where Oh where is..........

My step-daughter is 17 and I've been with her dad since she was about 12......I don't even know when she started her period. She was late, but has always refused to discuss it with her mother or myself. I don't know if she shaves "down there" or not even.......

I remember when I started my period (6th grade) -- those pads were like phone books!! My Goodness!! My mom also refused to let me shave my armpits. The hair I had under my arms was soooo thick & long I looked like a monkey. I had to wear T-shirts to the public pool cuz I was sooo embarrased. The boy next door saw it once & walked me home from the pool & sat my mom down & explained how disgusting it was & told her to let me shave. I think I was 12. Same with my legs, wasn't allowed to shave. I looked like Sasquatch. Ugh! Wasn't allowed to use tampons either -- a friends mother showed me how to use them, so I just started using them myself without her knowing....when she found out she was PO'd BIG TIME. Oh well....

Was due for my period today & yep, I'm crampy! Right on schedule!!

My hubby is fixed also & I love it!! No babies for me.....

I let my daughter start shaving her legs when she was 11, just from the knee down. She's got dark brown hair so any body hair is dark and I'd hate for her to feel uncomfortable in shorts (which we wear all year here in Florida). Nicole came down here last month with her daughter who's almost the same age as mine and she wanted to shave her legs starting this summer. Nicole sent her daughter into the bathroom with my daughter so she could learn how to shave. LOL It was so cute! The two girls were smiling and you could see they liked being treated like big girls.

The starter bras they have now are excellent. Soft fabrics and comfortable. My daughter usually prefers a sports bra but she's got some other nice ones. This summer her boobs just exploded and she completely fills a 34A. Boobies look so funny when they start developing, kind of pointy, but now hers are rounding out. I hope she doesn't take after me though, I'd like to see her with smaller boobs. LOL

LOL

I never told my mother when I began my period either. True story:

My mom, her gf and I were sitting at the kitchen table on morning and my mom and her gf began one of those haughty female "I know something you don't know" talks. I still remember how fucking smug (I HATE THAT SHIT) my mom's gf was saying, "You'll see. When you begin your period you will have to think twice about what you wear." (Implying not wearing white, etc.) I said, "Really?! I've been menstruating for SEVERAL months now and never had a warddrobe dilema."

My mother almost passed out.

She was like, "Why didn't you tell me?"

My answer? "What was there to tell you about? It isn't like I have a brain tumor. It's a natural part of a woman's life. If there is anything I need you to tell me, I will let you know."

I had a job since 14 so I just bought my own pads, tampons, etc.

Then when my younger sister started her period she would be like at death's door. My mother would say, "Leave her alone. She has her period and needs to lay down."

I would roll my eyes and say, "IT IS HER PERIOD - NOT A BRAIN TUMOR."

My 12 year old doesn't have thick dark hair on her legs. If she did, then I wouldn't object if she wanted to shave. As for the hair under her arms I offered to begin taking her for waxing when I go. She has declined so I guess it can't be that bad. LOL

I am very cool and open w/my kids about their bodies. We are nude or in some stage of undress at home especially in the heat (no men in our apartment - blinds drawn, of course) and comfortable with ourselves... If they have questions I answer - I hide nothing from my children and hope that they will ALWAYS feel comfortable coming to me with any concerns.

Mrs Puddles - I have to say that though this stage in my kids' lives freaked me out a little initially but now I am truly enjoying it. I feel so close and connected to my kids. We are having a good time (in spite of all the bullshit) growing up together!!! ;)

Werd -- that's great how open you are with your kids.....my mom was MUCH older than me (40 years) so she was very old fashioned....Now that I look back, it was kind of annoying....

Oh, and when I first started my period, she called everyone on the phone & told them!! I was mortified!! LOL

My mother had a HYUGE mouth too. Maybe deepdown I was afraid she would do this to me as well. LOL

OMG you all are so funny! I have two boys, so no worries here. Raina, I am so feeling you. My cycle does the same thing to me. sometimes it's here, no problems, other months...I could have a damn heart attack it takes so long to get here. It's like mother natures SICK joke! It is so sparatic that I keep a pregnancy test under my bathroom sink at ALL times! Talk about paranoia and stress, and I have been on BC for 9 years since my youngest was born. I am so over the BC and looking into get my tubes tied. Has anyone considered or had this done? Do women tend to put on weight after they have this done? I am looking at all options but since I have been on BC for so long I figured that getting my tubes tied was the next step. What do you think ladies?

Thanks, Natalie

Why not have your hubby have a vasectomy? Insurance covers it. It takes about 20 minutes in the office with local anaesthetic. He will sit on a bag of frozen peas for like a day (think about what YOU were sitting on and for how long after giving birth) and you all will be fucking like rabbits - no worries - before you know it!

My hubby had that done 2 years ago......he watched the clock while having the surgery done -- took 12 minutes......the PAPERWORK took longer....Insurance covered all but $35

He kept ice there all weekend, and he's had no problems....
