Obsessive Eating Habits

Hey bros and broettes

I've got a couple questions for you all. Hopefully I am not alone here. Im finding that i'm getting obsessed with my diet/training and eating super clean. I mean, I just had a black coffee, and I'm tripping out about the artificial sweetener I put in it, not too mention the mental anguish I had after drinking a can of diet coke with my chicken breasts. This shit is fucked up. I know being like this will give me awesome results, but it is not all that fun.

I was like this before, and got huge and lean, and it was all gravy, except for the fact that life was very unfun being chained to the weights and diet. For me I feel like unless I do it juuuuust riiiiight, its a waste of fucking time. Anyone feel me? Ugh. I just got back into training again, and its already becoming all consuming.
 
I understand! My mind is fucked! Always LIVING my diet and weights. Take a week off and just have a good time. I do this about every 6-8 weeks and it keeps me sane.....not really, but better.
 
Well for the most part, bodybuilding based diets are really not that mouth watering. You can spice up chicken, eggwhites and cottage cheese only so many ways. But it really shouldn't get to you so much that it's begininng to be "unfun". Don't let it consume your ever moment or that'll be a sure sign of future burnout. Let the mirror be your best guide. Look at yourself after you had that black coffee with artificial sweetener. Did you see any sudden fat gain or horrible change in appearance? I've seen more than enough people who stop at Wendy's on a regular basis for a classic triple and still have abs the next morning. As long as you can stick to clean eating for the most part you will be fine and have a lot less stress in the process.

Not proud... but last weekend, that was me :rolleyes:

Woke up... pulled the shirt up ... "ahhhhh... no instant 20lb gain... sweeeeeet!" lol

What alex said....Definitely have to keep it interesting and creative with the meals...

Try spices like cayenne pepper or the nosalt type of seasonings on meats... There are many options out there and if you're really wanting to kick it up a notch, you'll find them...
 
I've been living this shit (competition diet) for 6 yrs now - I either let it completely go or I weigh my food and pack it all the night before so I dont' even have to think about it.... The gym stuff -- I've been obsessive about it since 1981.

When you first get into it, it seems to be so critical to get everything just right - in a way it is because you are starting from a plan and then seeing how your body reacts to it. As you go, you learn what you react to, what fits your lifestyle, what is just too annoying to do and how long you can take it. After a while, you then start to relax a bit and start exploring the boundaries of what your body likes & dislikes. I really want to slap these people who just got into it & say "OMG I'D NEVER DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT!" Guess what? Your body and your sanity can't handle the exact same thign all the time w/ no break or deviation. You WILL hit burnout whether you think you will or not. But you have to go thru the initial phases of discovering how your body reacts to it -- the physical response, the energy level, the stress (mental, emotional, physical) and how it all impacts your lifestyle - sometimes for competition you can set the rest of your life aside for a while, but you can't do that throughout your life because eventually you have to deal w/ things like keepign your job, etc.

But eventually its all about finding a balance. Another thing you discover over the years is that your body doesn't handle these goals like - MAX PR! and all that. Or "I WANT TO GET AS BIG AS POSSIBLE!". The goals change, but the time in the gym, the diet prep and all that really don't. It is definitely a lifestyle choice. I've lost many friends over my competition work. They just arent' interested. But I gain greater satisfaction from what I accomplish and I have a whole other group of friends who aren't party animals who will be sitting in rehab this time next year. Instead we'll all be gettign together at some big competition to watch one of them get a pro card!

But its definitely a matter of first learnign the diet & training stuff, make it "your own" and then start to do your own experimenting as to what works the best for you, what starts to fit in your lifestyle for the long term and then continuously re examine your goals as your body changes in response.

Those classic triples are the shit. I was just going for coffee the other day and one of my co-workers asked if I could pick him up a classic, fry and frosty on my way. Barely made it without breaking down. :) Had a Ruby Tuesday's Colossal Burger (1lb) last month. :p Could've had some ribs to wash it down too. :)
