I think my respect for you just skyrocketed downwards like 33% in 4 secs. Wow. Burning down a place of worship eh? Wouldn't ever propose burning down a church. I understand it's not the brightest idea to request building a mosque in that specific location, but hoping that they burn it down??

If the situation was "reversed" and someone somewhere wanted to build a Catholic church on the grounds where a group of Catholics flew planes into a couple of buildings (and therefore spread god knows how many peoples ashes and remains onto the ground below) I would say burn the churn down too.

Its probably the most tasteless idea Ive heard in a long time.

Call me old fashioned, but what about just a plain vanilla memorial for the dead?

While it's true that not all Muslims are terrorists, and in fact I have friends who are Muslims, there hasn't been enough of an outrage by good Muslims in the USA to satisfy me that they really do consider the terrorists as not part of their group. Building a mosque there, is too "in-your-face" this soon after 9-11. If the good Muslims in the USA wish to change their public profile, they need to denounce the wrongdoings of the fundamentalist/extremist Muslims FIRST, and build a good rep on their own beliefs. This is almost as inappropriate as having a statue of Hitler on the grounds on a synagogue, pointing out that he was good to his girlfriend and he fed and cared for his dog. Jewish people wouldn't buy German cars for decades after the Holocaust. Should VW have put dealerships in all the Jewish neighborhoods to "help the Jewish people get over the Holocaust quicker", in 1946? I don't think anyone the Battery area wants to see or hear anything about Muslims any time soon.
