Not feeling legs during DL

get your butt down and do it Olympic style you will feel it in your legs, drive up instead of back.

do snatch deadlifts for leg action - wide grip like a snatch, do it on a 4inch block. Thighs horizontal at start, shrug the bar up top.

Power lifter deadlifts just overtrain my lower back which get more than enough work as is, so I don't bother doing em.
My lower back gets hit by barbell rows, Olympic lifts, back squats, and just picking up stuff in the gym and at work.

They're fairly useless for me, its too slow and they teach bad habits since you pull backwards, rather than upwards for explosion. I'd rather do heavy pulls.

Get you butt down and keep your head up (look in front of you at about eye level throughout the lift), the key is to concentrate on pushing your legs through the floor rather than merely pulling the weight up.

I disagree with the fact that deadlift slows you down CoolcolJ!!! It's the best exercise to improve the strength part of the power equation for jumping!! Even superior than the holy Squat (YES yes!!!) because contrarely to popular beliefs the HIPS and Spinae Erectors are the primarily movers in a jump, not the quads!

I didn't mean it slows you down, its just the lifting is so slow relative to pulls, and the movement pattern sorta confuses ya if your doing olympic pulls from the ground as well.

I do plan to do them later on, but you can either drive your squat poundage or the deadlift. I did them both in the past and the combo killed me :)
I have a personal goal of squatting 2 sets of 5 with 3 times my bodyweight in the full back squat, so that's why I'm concentrating on that. But I'm sure I'll do a cycle of deadlifting here and now.

3 times your bodyweight for 5 !!?? Whao you have high expectations!! What do you squat now and what do you weigh? I can deadlift just a little more than twice my weight now, my goal is also to get it to 3 times but only for a single though... My friend (who is a total freak with crazy jumping abilities) can squat 600lbs and he's like 185 maybe. *Thinking...* DAMN!! That's 3 + 1/4 of his bodyweight, no wonder he can do the windmill or dunk over people...
