Newbie WIth Diet Questions

Hi all,

First post here. I am 6 feet and weigh around 200 lbs. I want to get in shape and want to loose some body fat and get lean muscles.

I am vegetarian but I can have chicken in my diet if it helps. I don't know where to start. Should I go to the gym and get some nutritional consultation and also get a personal trainer.

I am also looking for some protein bars that I can eat as a snack/meal replacement. I need you suggestions please.

getting a trainer is a 50/50 chance at best of getting someone who actually can help you. your best bet is to exactly what you are doing and search an read through the forums.

I am 29, male, workout regime right now is some cardio and using the machine at the apt fitness center.
Bodyfat, I think is around 20-21% I am not sure.

I would like to become lean and gain muscle. I would also like to drop my Bodyfat count. Diet now includes cereal in the morning. Lunch boca burger with bun or some vegetable and roti (Indian bread), some snaks in the evening and dinner again vegetables, lentils and rice or roti.

You need to add in as much chicken as you can, if that is the only meat you will eat. Eggs, whey, any other form of protein that you can. This will help you build muscle and burn fat. Dry carbs; cereal, burger bun, breads, won't help you burn fat. I'm not sure what "the machine" is, but if you want to shed fat and build muscle your best bet is lifting. Weight training burns more cals than cardio. Cario can also break down muscle rather than build it. Best fat burning cardio-type work would be HIIT (high intensity interval training). The more muscle mass your body has the higher your metabolism is, so as you add muscle your body will burn fat more efficiently.
 
Is there some kind of diet I can follow which tells me what to eat and when and how much. If you guys could point me to the right directions it would be great.

follow this training and diet. dont change anything in the training. in the diet make sure your bread is whole grain, ezekeil bread is a real whole grain bread but is sometimes hard to find. some markets sell it frozen. in addition to this add 40 minutes of cardio to 3 0f your non training days first thing in the morning before you eat anything.

this should get you through the irst 2-3 months.
 
I have read that a lot of people here are using protein from need2buildmuscle.com
I am currently using ON 100% whey which will get over soon. Should I continue with the same or try the n2buildmuscle.com protein.
Also, what other supplements can I take, I also read about fish oils, which one should I take. Kindly suggest.
