Yeah, get a lot of people asking me where I work out, and what they should do to "get into shape". Sadly, I can see right through their great New Years aspirations. I'm sure some of them are serious and are going to get into it, and stay in it, but not many. I tell them I work out at home, and they don't believe me, since they tried that and didn't have the discipline to keep it up. I'm too nice a guy to tell them that if they don't have the discipline, they're going to fail before they start. They should just put their gym dues in the bank, and leave it there. If lifting isn't your passion, forget it. If it IS your passion, you're already doing it, and probably have been since high school, and wouldn't be asking me where I work out, or how I got to look the way I do.
Here's how I benefit from the nooblet in-rush each year: Since I work out at home, I built a gym which has all pro equipment, and there's nobody to bug me, and I can work out any time, listening to any music, and no nooblet kids telling me I'm doing something all wrong. The wealthy people tend to buy all kinds of professional gym-quality pieces for their home weight rooms around Christmas for a new years resolution, and they have no idea what they're getting into.... Then it'll all show up on Craigslist at pennies on the dollar, sometime in May or June, when they're tired of their wives asking when they're going to start. I've picked up all of my machines, benches, plates, and all, from noobs with money, who never used any of the stuff more than a week or 2. I don't mean home-duty stuff from Walmart; I mean Ivanko plates, and my machiens are Icarian, Flex, Cybex, and all the real stuff. I thank the wealthy wannabe lifter noobs for me being able to have all that stuff, and no be in debt for it!!!!!
I've been lifting, at least to maintain, since I was 15 or 16. That's when Reagan was in office. Slacked off for a couple years in the early 2000s due to back trouble, but never lost the passion. I'm not a competitive lifter/builder, and in fact, I'm not that big. I just want to be cut & <5% bf, and in great shape. And that's where I am, God willing.
