New deadlift PR

Most of you know my back story, I was off for about a year after tearing my achilies. Started back in jan bla, bla, bla

Last night I figured I'd see what my max Deadlift is as part of a little deload this week.

BW in the morning is 185, I am carying a bunch of fat still though.

I pulled 455 for a new PR. No straps, no belt etc. Just some chalk.

Had a light hitch just before my knees, I know it wouldn't pass in competition because of this.

It's no record breaking lift by any standards, but a mini goal of mint.

My goal is 5 plates in 2 month's time, and then hopefully adding the 2.5's for 500 won't be a problem.

Nice!

damn dj... you really seem to be built for pulling... your dead numbers don't need much coaxing. congrats! :D

Thx.

Though my pressing is horrible in comparison, something I really need to work hard on.

And I haven't been squatting since I came back because my knee has been hurting me (another soccer injury), but I am starting to get chicken like legs so I'll try them again on Mon.

Here is the vid.

I'm probably about 25% Bf right now a cut will be coming soon, I'd like to try and hit 500 first.

jesus man, good pull especially considering what your LBM is if you are carrying that much BF...
shit im 172 and my 5 rep max is 385 WITH straps!!! I come into these threads and always feel puny lol

nice pull bro, your right you hitched it a little but it was very minor. work on your speed off the floor next dl workout with light weight and then do some rack lockouts till you max out. If you dont smoke 455 the following week do speed work/lockouts again and youll get it. very strong for 185, and keep sticking with chalk only too. BTW when i max out or do max triples i do wear a belt, you would have smoked that with a belt.

Thanks.

I never wear a belt or straps, my grip is fine with that weight (mixed) and I don't want to start relying on a belt.

I won't be pulling my one rep max for a while, I'll be going back to 5 reps next week. The 5 reps with lighter weight I pull as fast as I can.

I was also told on another board that if I still have problems to do pull through's and power shrugs. Also my form is a little off.

For lock outs do I set the bar at my sticking point just above my knees, or below it?

The bar I used was like a cheese grater, it tore my calus right off. I hope it heals by next week.

Get some chalk, it makes a huge difference. It's very cheap, like 5 bucks for a huge brick.

Try chalk and mixed grip for your top sets, eventually you're grip will catch up.

By using straps you're not training your grip at all so it will never get strong. I don't do anything for grip specifically, just deads, rows, weighted chins.

i agree 100% and thats why i said only on max attempts

good plan, what are you doing, 5x5?

I was also told on another board that if I still have problems to do pull through's and power shrugs. Also my form is a little off.
power shrugs would help more on the top half, you started slowing down below your knee, so i dont know. Throw them in and see what happens.

i would rotate between just below and just above the knee on different days
