Need Help w/ squats.......

O.K. here is the deal....the only piece of equipment I have at home is a basic bench that adjusts from incline to flat positions, The problem I am having is that I work out alone and I need a safe way to squat, being by myself and all. I don't have a safety rack or anything to use so am I going to have to start going to the gym just to do my legs? I really would like to avoid going to a gym because lifting weights for me is like meditation. My point is, I want to know if any of you had to improvise with the equipment you have and how did you do/ construct it?

you don't need a rack if you keep the reps above 5. Take a look a Bfold's video's he uses two steel barells for setting up his bar for the squat

You can build it out of wood for 50 bucks or less. I did, but I would be extremely careful, because I don't know how much mine will hold. I jus built a rack, not a cage.

Well, if you have enough room, a good power rack will cost you $250-300, which isn't all that much.

Do you know of any good places to get one? I have not seen these around in the sports shops in my area, would one really be better than another or does it really matter?

I don't think I could trust wood to hold the kind of weight I use, no offense but I'll stick with thick gauged steel instead. Thanks anyway.

I agree. I believe he said the guy he got them from just gave them to him as well.

Get creative. It was said once on one of the boards here, "If the will is there, you will find a way." I believe it. I have made many lifts possible without having to buy new equipment all the time.
