My ankel is broken this evening.

This evening i fell on the stairs and my ankel is broken three times. There are two bones with breaks. One is at the tip of one bone where it meets another and one of the others they said was a "splinter fracture", cant remember about the third.

Tomorrow i see the orthaedist and they say in the ER that i will need surgery to heal it correctly. It will be about 12 weeks they say only to have the cast off. I cant even say how long before i can squat, if ever again! :( :(

Nice that my legs are seen on the board becuase it will a very long time before they can look like that again. Maybe never.

My question that i have is for anyone who have in the past such injuries and how long was your recovery? In the leg, knee, ankel, anything like this. How long did it take before you could do big pressing moves again??

Thanks all for any help you may have.

I've known powerlifters that have ripped their kneecaps out (on tape can see them travelling up their legs) and come back stronger than ever.
I know of one powerlifter who badly broke his leg playing rugby and he came back to squat 700+ at 198lb.
There is also a pic of a powerlifter on the training board who broke his leg whilst squatting 731 I believe......at a bodyweight of 181(?). He came back to squat 900+!!

Bad injuries happen all of the time.......just recover properly, then take a bit of time coming back and you will be as strong as ever.

Thanks so very much for all the responses!!! :D :D :D :D

The orthaedist says the surgery is on friday and the cast is on for only 8 weeks. He sees how big my legs are and says "are you a bodybuilder or powerlifter?" I was rather surprised and say bodybilder. He says "i guess you want to get to your training again very soon, dont you?" Of course i tell him. He says i will use these bands he show me to make flexible again the ankel about being in the cast so long and that will take two weeks after the cast.
The bands are of different thickness and i build up to the bigger ones. He says no training for 10 weeks, but i am starting extensions and leg curls the day that cast is off.

Arioch i am keeping mindful your advice about not limping. It makes a lot of sense. Thank you.

No i have no insurance here. I have only been here 2 1/2 months and was not thinking to stay even this long. My brother says he can pay for my injuiry with his home insurance because it happening in his house and the ambulance can say that too, but i think he is lying and is planning to pay for it himself. The surgery will be 8 thousand. this is so much!

That is so very sweet of your brother. The two of you seem to be very close. That is rare in life that siblings care for each other so much.

You are planning on moving back?! BLAH Brian Fellow say's "That's CRAPPY!"

Yes they are like rubber (not the right word, but do you know i am saying?)and are coloured differently. Red, bleu, yellow, etc. He says they build back the strenght of the ankel and the flexibleness.

I hope it is true about the insurance becuase the kost is so high in amerika. We have social health care in Holland. There are not these worries.

It's unfortunate about your injury. I hope you weren't in too much pain. Take plenty of VitC to promote healing.

It may take as little as 8 weeks for the bones to heal, but then you have to learn how to walk again. The physio will help you strengthen and stretch the muscles that were immobilized from the cast, but you already knew that. I used the band and gravity in my physio. It was difficult not to limp, but that can't helped esp. soon after the cast is taken off. The muscles aren't strong enough to let you walk normally. I also did the Alphabet with my feet. That particular exercise helped with the rotation and flexion. As my ankle got stronger, I started adding exercise such as calf raises.

Don't fret too much on losing those gorgeous legs:p. You'll get them back quickly. You never know, the rest may be something you've needed for a long time.

Take it easy
