Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

im jus getting tired of the guys using the sqaut rack to do curls........and if that wasnt bad enough they do like 15 sets
Just yesterday had to kick this guy out of the squat rack doing curls so I could start my workout (which always begins with squats).

Surprisingly enough the other squat rack was being used by a couple for actual squats! And the other power rack was being used by a guy doing rack pulls... so obviously the curler had to go in order to make a once in a life time, record setting day. the first time ever all 3 "stations" (squat rack and 2 power racks) were being used for what they were intended to be used for.. it was a great day.

The curler wasn't to impressed though, it wold have been one thing if he were curling actual weight, but he was curling the bar and a 5 on either side... he can pick that shit up off the floor, he don't need no rack, lol.

I witnessed a couple morons at the gym today during my 15 minute weight for a squat rack.

The first guy had all of his gym stuff that he just can't live without - cellphone, sweater, keys, water jug, towel, etc. - laid all around the squat rack. He would do a set of 6 military presses and then walk over to his buddy doing some sort of back extension machine and talk for a minute or two. He must have repeated this 7 times, never upping the weight on the bar once, and always walking back over to his friend. I finally walked over and asked "Excuse me, how many more sets do you have" and he replied with "Four or five." 11 sets of military press? They were behind the neck too...

The second guy was performing some of the worst squats I've ever seen. He was barely going down half way and the look of his back made my spine scream. The worst thing was that, as he built up to a grand total of 225 pounds, he was wearing a full on lifting belt and knee wraps. He would take the belt and wraps off after every set, rest 5 minutes or so, and then put them back on for another go.

So I'm standing next to some fly machine turning my head back and forth between these two. There's only two squat racks in the gym so I had no choice but to wait. The worst part was everyone kept coming up to me asking if I was waiting for some misc. machine they were using, and I had to politely tell them "No I'm waiting on a squat rack." By the time squat man finally finished (Leaving the full 225 on the bar for me to take off) I was beyond irritated. Some people are just so rude and stupid.

Why didn't you just go ask to work in and slowly push the moron out of the squat rack. There's no way I'd wait around for tools like that. If they were doing actual squats I don't mind waiting, but morons like that can get the fuck out of the way.

I don't have any hard feelings kicking newbs off or out of whatever if they are just waisting time.

Yeah,

I mean newbs get a discount on their dues anyway. You have more of a right to the machine since you are obviously superior to the new guy.

If someone is fucking around it's annoying to have to wait for them, but they have as much right as you to use the equipment.

the guy who gave me the spot, I didnt waste any time on him.. it's almost impossible to find a competent spotter in a gym full of college boys and regular people so it's to be expected. It's my bad for not joining a more hardcore gym :)

If there's one around, you should definately switch...

I just can't get motivated around those folks in those places. I had little dude, project #2 doing an ME day, he's a freshman in high school and short but stout (sp?) and he was box squatting more than most of the grown men could ever touch, hit 345 and just got stuck with 365.

I feel their eyes upon me because I'm not small and I have these kids throwing around some decent weights, like I'm feeding them drugs, I can just hear the wheels turning. I've been pure all my life, decent strength genetics, body is as ugly as all get out, my nephew is the same, he's almost as strong as I am and he's 17...

Who said these were noobs? That's just Iliketolift making up for his insecurities by calling everyone not doing what he does a noob.

Noobs or not, it doesn't matter, some of the morons have been working out for years and may actually be quite big.

Everyone at the gym has every right to the all the equipment just as much as I do.

My beef isn't with people doing curls in the squat rack per say... my beef is with people doing curls (or such) in the squat rack (which could be done anywhere else in the gym), when other people are wanting to use the squat rack for what it was intended to be used for (you can't do squats anywhere else in the gym but in the squat/power rack).

It's simple gym etiquette (sp?). I do curls in the squat rack sometimes, and when someone asks how many sets I have left I say "what are you training today", if the answer is something that has to be done ins the squat rack i’ll gladly say, grab a bar, the rack is all yours. I do it all the time. I even do my deads out of the squat rack so others can do squats etc.

I hear you and agree. Etiquette between people is as a whole a thing of the past. The decent people will still work towards doing the right thing, but those are becoming the vast minority.

The few times someone has wanted to work in on a machine I was using it's been pretty simple to take turns.

My main reason for posting something like that was in response to

Just got under my skin a little bit and seemed to come from someone who wasn't willing to show the etiquette he was demanding from others.

Plus, I can't stand a bully.

I hear ya...

I forgot to mention; I actually did ask to work in with one of the morons towards the end. He just responded with "I'm almost done" and I was too pissed to go into it any more. I know I shouldn't let those asses just get away with it but I hate dealing with that crap, I prefer to just let it slide and vent later.
