Moderate Intensity Cardio Really Best for Fatloss?

You burn more fat during exercise while performing moderate intensity cardio. HOWEVER, you will burn way more calories and benefit from an extended metabolic boost (and more fat loss after exercise) with high intensity cardio; I usually do 15 minutes high intensity 3-4 times a week and haven't had any issues with muscle wasting.

Bro...you know I agree with the calorie balance and diet...but you're talking WEIGHT whereas I was talking about FAT. Different fuels are burned depending on how you train, which is evident in that study, and is a known fact among physiologists.

Hey Punt...that study says that in order to oxidize the highest percentage of fat as a fuel (as opposed to carbohydrate) you should be working between 55 and 72% of your VO2max (maximal oxygen uptake)...which can be estimate with the formula given by Ninja...or which can be tested if you want to go have it done.
 
No I am tlaking about fat, because when your body searches for calories it uses its glyclogen and to blance that out it begins ot utilize stored fuel stores not muscle breakdown except in extreme starvation cases

No one is talking about muscle breakdown. It is a fact that you can manipulate which energy substrates are being oxidized at any given time. If he wants to burn fat, that study says to work between 55 and 72% of his VO2max. I'm sure there are differing opinions on the exact numbers, but they will all be in that ballpark.

That's the point that I think everyone is forgetting when comparing the two.

When you do higher intensity cardio it raises your metabolism for about 24 hours *after* you workout.

And not that anyone gives a hoot, but my cardiologist doesn't like low-intensity aerobics. I was told explicitly to keep my heartrate up 70-80% of Max and not to pussy around with lower intensity than that.
