Middle of night meal

Has anyone tried waking up after 4 hours or so of sleep and taking down some milk or cottage cheese and going back to bed. That 8 hours of sleep seems like a long time to go without food.

I've read of some people doing this. I'm not so sure the benefits of eating in between the 8 hours would outweigh the value of rest..

I sometimes drink a pint (not much I know) of milk before I sleep. The protien is absorbed over several hours (6ish I think).

i do it all the time...but i have problems sleeping so i'm up anyway. if you can sleep through the whole night...i would say don't bother. if your up like me...might as well eat up though

I am a firm believer that you recover & your muscles grow when you sleep & have adequate rest. Probably not the best idea to intentionally interupt sleep... just have a slow digesting protein (i.e. like casein) or a fat + protein before bed ... slows down metabolism while you sleep to trick your body into thinking it's NOT going 8 hours without food.

agreed, but many times I wake up due to hunger pains...then Ill have some chicken or a whipped up casein pudding..

Took the words right out of my mouth......Sleep is a time to restore the body.
I knew a body building girl who did this and she was in GREAT shape but suffered from extreme insomnia and digestive problems....but man she looked good...ugh! It's how ya feel, not how you look
